The Vaping Truth About the CDC's Teen Tobacco Survey

  1. 1. The Truth About the CDC’s Teen Tobacco Survey
  2. 2. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently released data saying teen use of e-cigs is up from 2011 to 2015.
  3. 3. Coincidentally, the CDC also reported NO increase in teen tobacco use, which by the way proves NO “gateway effect” between e-cigs and smoking.
  4. 4. Many organizations and researchers, as well as a New York Times op-ed, have refuted the CDC’s data and methodology.
  5. 5. The National Institute of Health’s (NIH) Monitoring the Future Survey (MTF) actually reported decreases in e-cig and tobacco use among teens from 2014 to 2015.
  6. 6. Yet, many media did not include any reference of the NIH’s MTF data that e-cig use among teens actually dropped.
  7. 7. Now anti-vaping organizations are using this data to push their own agendas for tougher regulations on vapor products, including taxing them like cigarettes.
  8. 8. The fact is vapor products are only for adults. The average age of a vaper is 39 and mostly all are former smokers.
  9. 9. No teen should ever pick up an e-cig. The vapor industry always has supported laws on age restrictions of these products. Parents and guardians should talk to their children about NOT using any adult products.
  10. 10. The stark reality is that smoking costs America more than $300B in annual healthcare costs and kills nearly 480,000 smokers each year.
  11. 11. Finally, there is a product on the market that can be effective in helping reduce the public harm caused by combusted cigarettes, which science says is more than 95 percent less harmful than smoking.
  12. 12. So, why would anyone want to stop this progress?
  13. 13. The motives are unclear, but the answer is probably more about money rather than protecting the public health.
  14. 14. More than 9,000,000 former smokers already switched to vaping. And many of them vote.
  15. 15. Right now, there are more than 40,000,000 adult smokers in the U.S., so lives are literally at stake.
  16. 16. It is imperative that vaping is embraced as a solution to the death and destruction caused by smoking.
  17. 17. Contact your elected state and federal officials and inform them on the truth about vaping.
  18. 18. Otherwise, we’ll just have more of the same … smokers smoking.
