radiologlsts oi the Department feaslbly and in turn they would be provided to perform
complex and therapeutic and CT guided procedures in oncology and pain care She
has a so stated ihat ihe major use of th s equipment iS io perform Tumor ab at on
procedure for Liver Lung, Kldney, cancer as an effecUve alternatve or where
Surgery is not poss ble. C inical Publ cations from vaTous parts of world show that
the sLrrviva rate of Ablat on tn liver is very c ose to surgery whereas flimoi ab ailon
is a nrinimally invas ve pTocedure ai a s gnif cantly lower cost and Lowe. patient down
time
B. The Director of Medical Educatlon has also stated that currenty the
Medcal institutons pefform imted oi Bopsy procedures mainly liver cases under
U trasound Scanner and only a very iew cases under CT Scanner. With the lse of
this equipment, Biopsies for all organs ike Lung, Kldney, Liver, bone and other
comp ex locations can be very safely performed under CT Scanner. Thls /r'ill enable
early diagnosis and treatment of Cancer in these organs. lnstead of sending pat ents
from remote locations to where such experis are available, with this equipment the
Radiologlsts can perform these procedures within the reach of patjents. As these
procedures are listed n the current Chef Mnisteas Comprehensive Heath
lnsurance Scheme rt will fetch revenue also.
9. The Director of Medical Education has further stated that there s no
financial commitment for the Government n procurement of the Robotic Tool as the
funds are available under Chief Mlnister's Comprehensive Health lnsurance Scherre
and she has therefore requested thr,'Government to accord adminisirative sanction
to procure and install the said Robotic Tool ior CT guided Tumor ablaton a.cl
B opsy' for the Radio ogy Departments of their respective Medical College Hospita s
as shown in the Annexure to this order, through the Tamil Nadu Medica Service
Corporatlon Lmlted Chennal utillzing the Chief N,4tnisteas Comprehensive Heath
lnsurance Scheme funds.
10 The Governrnent. after careful consideration of the proposa of ihe
Director of Medical Educat on, hereby accord administrative sanction to procure and
nstall the 'Robot c Tool for CT guided Tumor ablation and Biopsy, for the use in the
Radioogy Departments of the iwelve Government Medical College Hosplials as
shown n the Annexure to this order at an approximate cost of Rs. 1,10,00 000/-
(Rupees one Crore and ten lakhs only) per unii. Accordingly the D recior of ltedical
Educaton is directed to mobilize ihe funds avai able under ihe Chief lrin steis
Cornprehensive Health lnsL-trance Scheme in consultation with project Djrector,
Tami Nadu Hea th System Project and no additional Staff and addi|onal funds
(both recurr ng and non-recurling) vr' ll be provided for th]s proposa and lt shou d be
manned by the existing staff availab e ln the respect ve hospitals in the future a so
