To whom it may concern:
Ms. Roxy Becker served as the teaching assistant for COMM 3110, Persuasion
Theories this semester. Roxy was a great asset to the class and outside of it too.
She attended each class session and students often looked to her for guidance on
assignments during the semester. Many times I would walk by her office hours to
find her explaining a high-level concept to students. Roxy also responded to
student emails in a timely manner, graded reflection and term papers, managed
the Starfish system, and taught two class sessions. The course had 120 students
enrolled and grading that many reflection and term papers was time consuming
and challenging. She also input all the grades for exams and helped to come up
with a reasonable curve based on a statistical analysis of the test results. Roxy was
well prepared each time she taught. Roxy reflected upon what she did well and
what she could improve after her first time teaching and worked on her
weaknesses. She showed a huge improvement her second time teaching.
Compared to her first lesson, she did a better job encouraging participation, which
can be challenging in a large lecture hall. She engaged them with pop culture
examples that pertained to the topic area being covered. I can safely say, the
students got more out of the class and better understood the material due to Roxy
assisting with the course this semester.
