2. Thisisour inquiry question: How can we
makesureNZ alwayshasenough electricity
in thefuture?
• Electricity comes from Power stations, Dams and Solar
pannels electricity can come from sunlight if it hits a solar
panel.
• The main power sources can be made different ways:
• Solar power (uses sun)
• Wind (uses wind)
• Tidal (generators)
• Chemical
• Batteries
• Fuel cells
• Nuclear
• Hydro
• muscles
3. Our suppOrting questiOns!
• Where does our electricity come from in NZ?
• How does electricity get to our houses?
• Where does the electricity we save go?
• How can we save power?
• How much power do the people in NZ need?
• If New Zealand’s population gets bigger will we
still be able to get enough electricity for
everyone?
4. What we have learn’t .
In room 16 we have been learning a lot about electricity.
Here are some facts about electricity.
• Electricity is dangerous because you can get electric
shocks.
• Did you know that one person uses 15.45 trillion KW a
year?
• Did you know that lightning is a form of static electricity?
• Did you know that AC/DC means alternating
current/direct current?
• A conductor lets electricity flow through.
• A insulator does not let electricity flow through.
5. This is what we can do to make
sure NZ has enough electricity in
the future!
• Turn lights off when your not using the room.
• Don’t have really long showers and don’t waste
hot water.
• Turn of appliances at the the wall when your not
using them.
• You could turn your hot water cylinder off when
your going on holiday.
• Using the microwave instead of the oven or
stove.
• Close doors when there is a heater on or a heat
pump on.
6. Insulators and Conductors!
• An insulator is something that doesn’t let
electricity flow through.
• A conductor is an object or type of
material which lets electricity flow through.
• Insulators and Conductor are quite
important for electricity.
7. How do dams work?
• It travels down a
humungous pipe to a
turbine up to the
generator which trravels
to the big energy pylons
to the electricity box to a
little power lines in to the
city.
