Ross McEwan is a British architect with over 30 years of experience. He received his architectural qualifications from the University of the South Bank London and University of East London. McEwan has worked on a variety of projects in the UK and abroad, including community regeneration in Edinburgh, public art projects in Newcastle, and housing proposals in Algeria. Currently, he is a partner at AiA focusing on master planning and public participation projects around urban development in Edinburgh.

Granton sur Mer 3 part community regeneration project:
The proposal is an International Garden Festival located within a historic Walled Garden, 100 art studios in
sea containers on sloping derelict land north facing and an outdoor swimming pool on the Waterfront
Promenade each part will also include café or restaurant facility.

Awareness Campaign over the Edinburgh Waterfront Development Strategy.
A series of public participation workshops and exhibitions in the Lighthouse studio.
2005/’06
AiA Art in Architecture in collaboration with Dennis Crompton of Archigram, Royal Gold Medallists for
Architecture held a Symposium at Edinburgh University on June 22nd 2007 entitled, Edinburgh: A
Symposium on the City in the 21st Century.
Formation of the JUMP group, (Joined Up Master Planning). Development of a contra master plan to
counter the RMJM Architects master plan framework proposals for the Leith Docks, Edinburgh, owned by
Forth Ports PLC. British Council interest via Richard Goodwin, Prof. COFA UNSW
2004/’05
Contracted work with the Public Arts Officer and Newcastle City Council to develop strategic Artist Led
Design Solutions aimed at transforming Hodgkins Park, from the former Victorian epoch into a
contemporary Urban Park.
August 2002 – March 2003 Manifesto : The Foundation For Architecture Scotland
The installation and design of an exhibition of contemporary Scottish Architecture that will travel
throughout the Baltic states and northern Europe for the next 13 months.

Private practice since leaving Clelland Associates. Continued to work for the client in Highgate London
and finally completed the project.

I worked directly with Foster Associates with special focus upon the impact that social housing would have
in within the Kings Cross Redevelopment. The main emphasis being the impact that low rise social
housing would have upon the commercial redevelopment of the station at Kings Cross would have upon
the development of the commercial property within the development.
Chapman Taylor. Brought in by Rosehaugh on Peninnuslar the Greenwich Peninsular limited Competition
to specifically redesign the masterplan for the inclusion of the 500 “Affordable “ houses required in the
brief.
July1984 - Sept 1984 Halcrow Fox with Knight & Marsden Architects
Senior tutor at University of East London asked me to go to Algiers for three months researching housing
needs in and around the city of Algiers. Proposals put forward to the city of Algiers for the rehousing of the
shanty towns on the edge of the city in traditional hillside courtyard housing. These proposals were in stark
contrast to the proposals being put forward by the Algerian Government and Halcrow Fox for large slab
blocks and tower blocks.
