TITLE - DATA SMART: USING DATA TO YOUR ADVANTAGE
Scenario:
You are applying for an RFP and are considering expanding your programs. The funding allotted with allow for
expansion to one site and provide resources for up to 5 years.
You are a part of a committee, which must determine what is the “right” choice for expansion based on your
agency’s mission, community needs, and other objectives as you find applicable. Use the data and “Ask, Assess,
Decide” worksheet to help inform your decision-making process.
About your program:
1. You serve participants ages 5-13 (elementary and middle school) and their families.
2. You currently have several sites within the outlined neighborhoods.

Location:
The Afterschool Agency is located in Queens Community Board 1, School District 24. Currently it operates
afterschool programs in 3 sites all located in Community Board 1.
Services Offered:
The agency operates 5 major programs:
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Academic
Enrichment
Small group tutoring focused on ELA and Math Statewide Exams, Specialized High
School Entrance Exams and remedial services in Math and Reading
ESL English as a Second Language; The Afterschool Agency has received an award
annually from various groups, such as the United Way, for excellence in its ESL
programming for youth. The Agency is known in the community for increasing
English proficiency levels by 1 full level during the course of the academic year.
Sports Basketball, Soccer, Cricket, Track and Field, Tennis
Arts Dance and Sculpture (provided through a contract with partner arts foundation);
Participant art work is regularly featured as exhibits in local museums and
businesses.
Music Instruction Guitar, piano and sound engineering classes offered by agency staff
