1. NAIL SURGERY INSTRUCTIONS
Avulsionis performedto treat an acutely infected ingrown nail
Matrixectomyis performedto permanently remove a portion of the nail.
General Instructions for both procedures are as follows:

Go home (no mall, no supermarketjust for today); tomorrow do your normal routine
Elevate your foot the first 12 hours to decrease pain
Take Advil or Tylenol before the anesthetic wears off. Pain is typically minimal.
8-12 hours after the procedure, begin soaking your toe for 3-5 minute in Epsom salt
solution, soapy water or plain water
• Wounds heal more quickly when kept moist.
• Avoid applying peroxide, alcohol
1st week: Daily 3-5 minute soak and after soaking apply a band aid with
antibacterial ointment such as Neosporin. It is okay to get your foot wet in
the shower, but not at the swimming pool or beach.
2nd week: Only a band aid with antibacterial ointment
3rd week: A band aid with antibacterial ointment during the day and open
during the night
You have to return to the office in 1-2 weeks
It is normal to notice redness and drainage from the toe
Infection rates are very low. Do not hesitate to call theoffice.
Nail avulsion:Normally heals in approximately 1 week.
Matrixectomy: Normally heals in approximately 2-4 weeks.
