Experience
01/28/2014-
04/10/2016
Software Engineer, Yahoo Inc., Sunnyvale,CA, USA.
I worked on the Abuse Prevention team, specifically on detecting and classifying malicious traffic
using data analytics and machine learning algorithms including k-means clustering and logistic
regression with Hadoop, Spark and python. I also helped to design and create a distributed
rate limiting system that protected Yahoo from DDOS attacks. This system handled billions
of requests per day with high concurrency and was written in C++. I also took the lead on a
project that involved providing analytics for high request rate users that used hadoop and some
basic hive.
Summer 2011 Intern, Algotochip Corporation., Sunnyvale,CA, USA.
I developed an automatic documentation framework in C++ to document the capabilities of
custom hardware processors from their design specifications. I also developed a test DNA sequence
matching algorithm that was used as the basis for the simulation of the production of a custom
hardware accelerator.
09/2009-09/2010 Researcher, UC Berkeley Magnetic Imaging Lab, Berkeley,CA, USA.
Research in Magnetic Particle Imaging. I developed a spectrometer for measuring magnetic
properties of nanoparticles for use in Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI), a new imaging modality
that uses electromagnets to excite nanoparticles and detects their induced magnetization and
relaxation. I was involved in all aspects of this project including designing and building the
detection coils, the circuits for power amplification and signal detection, to writing the acquisition
software in Matlab and performing data analysis on the results.
06/2008-07/2008 Researcher, Scripps Clinic Orthopedic Research, La Jolla,CA, USA.
Bioengineer at Scripps Clinic Orthopedic Research. Wrote a python program to help run
biomechanical models of hip motion on San Diego Supercomputer.
07/2007-09/2007 Researcher, UC Irvine Epilepsy Lab, Irvine,CA, USA.
I worked on epilepsy and brain edema research. I worked with optical methods for measurement
of brain edema and in epilepsy studies of mice including electrode implantation surgeries for
video EEG studies.
01/2007-06/2007 Researcher, VA Medical Center, La Jolla,CA, USA.
Individual Research at VA Medical Center. Auditory research in spiral ganglion growth and
development. Worked on neuronal growth and response to growth factors and performed animal
surgery and cell culture.
2. Pertinent Interests and Projects
Django Web
Framework
I built a website to display Twitter trending topics for major cities and plot them on a
map. Used Python, Django, Dajaxice, Google Maps API and Twitter API.
Machine Learning Dec 14,2012. Financial Market Time Series Prediction with Recurrent Neural Networks.
We used Echo State Networks to predict the future stock price for various stocks in the
S&P 500 index.
Digital Image
Processing
Worked on project to synchronize text and audio books. A user takes picture of page and
our Android application will start playing audio from the correct spot in the audiobook.
Drone Hackathon Apr 6, 2013. My team participated in and won the drone games at Stanford. We
programmed a Parrot AR. Drone quadrocopter to use the built in camera to detect
balloons and to pop them.
Hardware
Hackathon
Feb 23, 2013. I participated in hardware hackathon in which we designed and built a
electronic bicycle lock which we could unlock via bluetooth.
Arduino I built a solar panel and a remote monitoring system with an Arduino and temperature,
light and humidity sensors. Some of my other Arduino projects include a remote controlled
rover using Xbee wireless communication and bluetooth modules to communicate with
Arduino.
