4. Objective of this workshop:
- to inspire, give ideas, awaken new points of view.
- not to give a complete overview of events and aftermath happened.
Note:
Workshop is based on my opinions and observations in the field.

Till now:
150 aftershocks, 2.088 death, more than 5.000 missing,

14. So what can you do?
Anything! List 1 of your qualities which could be used in either Palu or Lombok on a
sticky note.
Sticky notes will be collected.
15. So what can you do?
Everyone has qualities! Everyone can help!
16.
17. A few things you can do:
Raise funds! Everyone has networks, everyone can raise funds.
Try to think out of the box, a lot of people do crowd funding already, yet, maybe not in
your network!
Organize a sponsor walk, turn your house into a pop up restaurant, sell your knowledge
or skills..
No clue? Join others!
18. A few things you can do:
Help animals! Animals are victims of the disaster too! If you have a weak spot for
animals consider helping animals in the impact zone by feeding (or if you are a local
with vet experience, help medically!), or even organize transport!
19. A few things you can do:
Make people forget the misery! Think of ways how can you help people in need, for
example by giving refugees a job, talking with people (on side or off side) in so many
ways, organize gatherings, take a moment for someone that wants to be heard, but
above all… help them to continue life!
20. A few things you can do:
Fund a temp house! Great work is done in Lombok by building temporary houses.
Temporary houses are a must, as the raining season is coming soon! Malaria and
dengue are around the corner and could raise the number of casualities!
22. What can’t you do?
Helping out others is a noble striving, but you do not want to help one from the shore
into the ditch…
Be carefull for:
- Unequal distrubution of help
- Corruption
- Disaster tourism
- Human trafficking and pedophilia
- Sharing and disclosing information of vulnerable people
23. Back to the sticky notes for the HOW..
Based on skills, qualities and interests you will be divided in small groups to come up
with an idea or strategy to help Lombok or Palu.
What can you do?
24. So how about that WOW?
There is nothing wrong with personal growth while helping
others!
You can take pride out of your work! Share what you do and
by doing that: INSPIRE OTHERS!
Have a life-changing experience!
25. Last tips:
- work with people on the ground, people that know the
culture, languages and attitudes of people and that know what
is needed.
- get yourself informed well.
- protect yourself from harmfull situations
- you can not help everybody!
- be ready!
