2. What is Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones is a television series on
HBO based on the best-selling series of
novels from author George R. R. Marting,
collectively entitled A Song of Ice and Fire.
The first book in the series is called A Game
of Thrones, and HBO used this name for the
entire series, to avoid changing the name
each season.
Game of Thrones is a medieval fantasy story,
full of dark intrigue, political machinations,
adult themes and more devious plot twists
than should be allowed.
3. The World of Game of Thrones
The world of Game of
Thrones is not our Earth
(or at least as far as we
know).
It is primarily set in the
westernmost continent of
Westeros, though some
action takes place across
the Narrow Sea on the
continent of Essos.
4. The World of Game of Thrones
Westeros is the name of the continent,
but it is commonly referred to as the
Seven Kingdoms, for long ago it
consisted of seven independent
kingdoms.
Now (at the time of the TV Series)
Westeros is one united Kingdom, ruled
by a single King.
The old seven kingdoms are each now
regions ruled by seven separate noble
houses, all subject to the King of
Westeros.
5. The World of Game of Thrones
From north to south, the regions of
Westeros are:
The North
The Riverlands The North
The Vale of Arryn
The Iron Islands
The Westerlands The Vale
Of
Iron
The Crownlands Islands The
Riverlands
Arryn
The Reach The The
Westerlands Crownlands
The Stormlands
Dorne The

6. A Bit of History The North
House Stark
300 Years ago, Westeros was a collection of The Vale
House Arryn
7 separate kingdoms, each with their own
royal family.
The Islands and
Riverlands
That all changed with the arrival of Rivers Tully
House
Aegon Targaryen, his 2 sister-wives and House Hoare
their 3 dragons. The Westerlands
House Lannister
Aegon defeated the Seven kingdoms and
became the ultimate ruler of Westeros.
The Reach
He ruled from the city of King’s Landing House Gardener
Tyrell
upon the Iron Throne.
The Stormlands
After his conquest, the 7 kingdoms Durrendon
House Baratheon
became regions and several ruling houses
changed. Dorne
House Martell
7. The Iron Throne
Aegon was ruthless and crushed his enemies.
He collected the swords of his defeated
enemies and using the fiery breath of his
dragon he welded them together and created
the Iron Throne, the ultimate symbol of his
power.
The blades still sharp, sitting the Iron Thone
was a constant reminder of the pain and blood
loss needed to rule the Seven Kingdoms.
To this day, the ruling monarch sits upon the
Iron Throne to rule over Westeros.
8. The End of The Targaryens
About 30 years before the time of the
Books, Robert Baratheon rose up in rebellion
against the current King, Aerys Targaryen, the
“mad” king.
Robert led the rebellion, along with his
childhood friend, Ned Stark of Winterfell, in
the North.
The rebellion was due in large part to the
alleged kidnapping and rape of Ned’s sister
Lyanna, who was betrothed to Robert, by
Rhaegar Targaryen.
Robert defeated Rhaegar in single combat on
the river Trident and claimed the Iron Throne
for himself.
By this time, all dragons had long become
extinct and magic was long gone as well.
10. The World of Game of Thrones
In Roleplay, a Character is a fictionalized persona
that is controlled by a player of the roleplaying
game or environment, much like a character in a
play.
However, unlike a play, roleplaying is generally
unscripted and mostly impromptu. Players make
up what their characters do and say on the fly.
To really be able to bring a character to life, it is
helpful for the player to create a rich
background or profile for the character.
Is your character a noble or a peasant? Is she a
lady or a whore? Is he a Knight of the Rose or a
brigand who steals from the unwary traveler?
It is up to you to define everything about your
character, but how can it be done fairly and
equitably without rules and standards?
