“That’s what ‘My Brother’s Keeper’ is all about.
Helping more of our young people stay on track.
Providing the support they need to think more broadly
about their future. Building on what works – when it
works, in those critical life-changing moments.”
- President Barack Obama, February 27, 2014
MBK is focused on six milestones. Our DLG mission
statement and approach aligns closely with:
* Milestone #3: Graduating from High School Ready
for College and Career
* Milestone #4: Completing Postsecondary Education
or Training and
* Milestone #5: Successfully Entering the Workforce
We successfully partnered with a major city in a
neighboring state this summer to conduct a
2-week Discovery Lab Global (DLG) Virtual
Reality Learning Internship for MBK high school
students from high risk neighborhoods. Each
student received a DLG certificate of completion
& the opportunity for a future DLG internship.
Good morning Mayor,
We were encouraged during a recent meeting
with a STEM official at US Dept of Education to
contact your city about your city's My Brother's
Keeper initiative.
It was suggested that we might be able to offer
MBK cities additional opportunities for achieving
Milestones #3 (success in high school) and
Milestone #4 (success in college) -- specifically
by offering high school students project-based
learning internship opportunities.
We welcome your help in making high school
students interested in STEM aware of this
unique project based learning internship
opportunity that is meant to be a college-level
experience. I am a former engineering
professor, former national engineer of the year,
and former DARPA program manager …
We contacted over
100+ cities & tribal
nations participating
in My Brother’s
Keeper. We offered
early hands-on
STEM experience to
their MBK students.

This initial success serves as “proof of feasibility” and will be a “template” for future
DLG collaborations with MBK communities. One goal of these DLG-MBK collaborations
will be to produce a national diversity talent pool of urban high schools students
interested in college and in a STEM career. Companies will be able to meet their talent
acquisition and diversity goals through their partnership with and sponsorship of DLG.
