OUR STORY
When a customer purchases a Green River knife they’re
buying a part of New Zealand history. Green River Knives are
manufactured by E. Goddard who have a proud heritage in
New Zealand stretching back over 87 years. Edward Goddard, a
master cutler from Sheffield, England, emigrated to New Zealand
and began designing and manufacturing knives in 1927. The
company has grown steadily during its history. It was a major
supplier of combat knives for the U.S. Army in World War II
and for many years the meat industry in both New Zealand
and Australia have preferred E. Goddard products.
With its proud New Zealand heritage E. Goddard continues
to thrive today by maintaining the highest standards in
manufacture and materials, building its reputation for
quality. Whether for sports, industry or in the home,
Green River knives are superbly designed for the
job and, with a little care, can last a lifetime.
GUARANTEED FOR LIFE*
Green River Knives are guaranteed for life against defective
materials and workmanship. The guarantee applies only if the
knife is used solely for its purpose and has been properly cared
for. Rusting of the blade caused by improper care is not covered
by the warranty.
IMPORTANT: Knives with CARBON STEEL
blades should be hand washed and thoroughly
dried and oiled after use to prevent rusting.
CARBON STEEL blades should not be cleaned
using a dishwasher.
Green River carbon steel blades come with a protective
epoxy coating which will wear off over time. This can be
removed using a solvent if required.

STEP 1
FURNACE
Steel is heated by using a heat controlled
furnace & then cooled rapidly in oil to harden
the blade.
The knives are then polished to remove any
rough patches or uneven bumps, leaving a
smooth finish.
The blades are frozen to -80°C for an entire day.
This process helps to improve the hardness of
the steel.
The final edge angle is achieved using specially
designed grinding wheels.

After hardening, the blades are brittle, tempering
relieves stress, reducing brittleness & lowers the
hardness.
Rubberised thermoplastic elastomer handles
are then moulded around the tang using
injection moulding machines.
The blade is then ground to have a full taper in
readiness for the final cutting edge.
All blades are batch tested to ensure the correct
level of hardness using a Rockwell Testing
machine that is regularly calibrated.

THE BLADE:
Forged and tempered from specially
selected high quality carbon and
stainless steels to give the finest quality
cutting edge.
Each blade is purpose designed from
years of practical experience.
With proper care and storage, it will
last a lifetime.
THE HANDLE:
Hygienically bonded from high quality
materials to withstand even the
toughest wear.
Comfortable rubberised thermoplastic
elastomer grip with added slip-proof
surface for safe handling.
CARBON OR STAINLESS?
Each type of steel has its benefits. As a
general rule CARBON STEEL will hold a
better edge for a longer time, but if not
cared for properly will rust. STAINLESS
STEEL is much more rust resistant but is
harder to sharpen.
