Design thinking is a big part of how industries are functioning in today's time. Combine it with employee experience and you'll get vast opportunities to enhance your employees' experience in the organisation right from their pre-onboarding to their exit. The presentation gives a glimpse of a problem faced by employees in a hybrid workspace model and how design thinking can be used to overcome it. The six stages of design thinking- empathise, define, ideate, prototype and test are used to solve the issue and see if organisations have already used it to their advantage. If yes, what do the results look like.
5. Stage 1:
Empathize
Q1 What are the virtual
employees’ feelings towards lack
of coordination between them and
the people in physical mode?
Q2. What are their expectations
regarding the same?
Q3 ·How do they feel about this
issue as a result of this?
7. Stage 3: Ideate
A. What are the assumptions
behind the problem statement?
Employees working from office carry an extra
advantage at influencing the decisions of the
team and the management.
Lack of trust and transparency between both
categories of employees as well as between
employers and employees.
Employees working from office feel lack of
freedom in working as compared to their
Work-from-home counterparts.
B. Challenging the assumptions
and questioning the status quo:
1. What if there is a way in which
employees working in a hybrid model
could coordinate to give better results?
2. How could both the categories of
employees trust each other?
3. What are some ways in which managers
could create an equal space for
employees, both in office and at home?
8. IDEA GENERATION
1.Refine hybrid meetings- using VR
setups to virtually transport all employees
to a common platform
2. Re-onboard entire team- setting clear
expectations about which employee should
do what
3. Being Inclusive- create a space
wherein both the categories of employees
feel involved
Ex: Microsoft Teams, Webex, Zoom
9. Stage 4: Prototype
What can organisations do to solve this
problem?
1. Give feedback
2. Use communication tools
3. Video Conferencing
4. Set guidlines
5. Keep the door open
10. Stage 5: Testing the solutions
1.“Keep the door open” : Following companies have used this as a
solution to enhance the experiences of their employees both online and
offline:
A. IBM- It allows employees to access higher management to discuss
concerns.
B. HP- notes that open communication should be part of day-to-day
business practices for all employees.
2. Using Cloud and Artificial Intelligence to modernize and secure hybrid
work such as the one used by Infosys-Infosys Modern device Management
for Hybrid work:
3. Give feedback: When employees receive constant feedback, it gives
them a sense of belonging, purpose and direction within the organization.
11. Outcomes of
Design Thinking:
+ 1. Used to improve performance
management and coaching at companies
such as Adobe, and Autodesk and New
York Life.
+ 2. Deckers Brands, Nestlé, and
Qualcomm have used design thinking to
develop highly intuitive, experiential
learning programs.
+ 3. Companies such as Zappos and others
design the candidate experience to attract
high-performing people and make it easy to
find the right job and apply quickly.
