ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Council's responsibilities are subject to the Higher Education Act of 1997 and the CPUT Statute of May 2010.
THE
COUNCIL
Makes Rules for the institution,
Establishes Council committees and determines the functions and composition of each
committee,
Establishes, in consultation with the senate, joint committees of the council and the senate
to perform functions which are common to the council and senate,
Appoints all employees of the institution, but in the case of academic appointments, it may
do so after consulting senate,
Determines the student admission policy of the institution, after consultation with the senate,
Determines, with the approval of the senate, the entrance requirements in respect of
particular higher education programmes, the number of students who may be admitted for a
particular higher education programme and the manner of their selection, and the minimum
requirements for readmission to study at the institution,
May, with the approval of the senate, refuse readmission to a student who fails to satisfy the
minimum requirements for University readmission, and
Determines and provides student support services after consultation with the SRC.
KEY POSITION, SKILLS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Communication & Interpersonal: Being a community service Agent, and through my training as a facilitator; I had
the opportunity to develop my interviewing, group facilitation skills, report writing skills, presentation skills and the
ability to form and maintain strong working relationships with diverse clients and communities.
Customer relations: Through my International benchmarking trips, I developed good customer relations skills (i.e.
Communication and liaison with a wide spectrum of clients and stakeholders at CPUT).
Team Building: I had excellent experience in working under pressure and as part of the team; learnt time
management skills and to deal calmly with crisis and difficult clients as an Organising CSRC Secretary General and a
Council Member of CPUT. I worked hand in hand with students, University staffs, Parents, Ministerial Departments
and Heads of Government Centres.
Problem solving: Developed analytical and problem solving skills as an Innovative Marketing Guru, CSRC
Secretary General and a Class Tutor, Mentoring. Also deal with highly offenders at psychoanalytical level.
Furthermore, enhancement of a university students and staff challenges by developing networking framework.

Research skills: My first DoHET policy review, Research Assistant in many SA Institutions and BTECH in Marketing
Research Practices helps to unlock value and opportunity in practice on required Research skills.
Project management and facilitation skills: My project management skills developed through with the vast
international experience and my facilitation skills as University Assembly Task Team, developed an insightful role as
a workshop facilitator at the Western Cape Bowl Communities, SA Centre of GoodHope focusing on social
grassroots as a Movement for Social Change Programme.

Negotiation and persuasion: This is about being able to put forward your way, also being able to trust and
understand where the other person is coming from so that you can both get what you want or need and feel positive
about it for mutual understandings. With the ability to unlock value for others.
Policy Development: Facilitate in a number of successful policy, co-draft a policy including the South African
Student Right Charter with the DoHET via SAUS in July 2013.
