TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Re: Rhett Richardson
I have had the pleasure of knowing Rhett Richardson since he started his undergraduate degree at Monash
University. During his undergraduate degree, Rhett quickly became a valuable member of The Society of Monash
University Chemical Engineers (SMUCE) and the Department.
SMUCE is a student run society and over many years has strived to achieve close links with companies who
employ Chemical Engineering students. SMUCE has been pivotal in creating the chemical engineering student
community we have today which is an ever expanding and friendly environment where students can meet other
students of similar studies and learn from one another. Rhett undertook the duties of SMUCE President during his
final year at Monash University. In this role, the President is responsible for the day to day management of the
club coordinating committee members, venue and equipment bookings as well as liaising with students and the
chemical engineering department. The president also presides as chair over the committee meetings along with
assisting in budgetary issues and the financial management of the club. Additionally, Rhett was involved in the
creation of a range of SMUCE branded materials including stickers, business cards, expanding the SMUCE
Facebook page and the publication of the 2013 careers guide. In addition to the above, the President is
responsible to ensure that the club social events run throughout the year. Social events that were held during
2013 included lawn bowls day, trivia night, cocktail evenings, regular themed lunchtime barbeques and most
importantly the Annual SMUCE Ball. The 2013 SMUCE Annual Gala Dinner was an amazing night with the theme
of ‘The Great Gatsby’
I feel that the above is quite an achievement considering the heavy workload Rhett had during 2013 to ensure his
grades were maintained during his final academic year.
Rhett gave freely of his time, not only to the Department of Chemical Engineering, but also to other students
within the Department. I would not hesitate to say that he was held in high esteem by his fellow student body both
past and present.
I have been employed at Monash University since 1995. I can honestly say that I have only met two other
undergraduate students who fall in to the same category as Rhett. Rhett relates very well with everyone he comes
in contact with. Rhett has a natural ability to motivate his peers to achieve their goals. I believe Rhett will not only
be a valuable asset to any company that employs him but he will continue to impress those around him
throughout his long-term career progression.
I am happy to answer any further questions regarding Rhett’s enrolment at Monash University you may have.
