Preface
SUCCESS. The accomplishment of an aim or purpose.
Success is what we all crave for. Whatever you do, the ultimate
goal is to be successful in your endeavours. Each one of us want
to be successful in all walks of life. But what is success? How do
you achieve it?
As mentioned before, success is the accomplishment of an aim
or purpose, the good or bad outcome of an undertaking. But
success in not absolute. It is a relative term. Definition of success
varies from a person to person. Like for example, when a toddler
holds a pen, writing something legible is success, but for an
accomplished novelist, writing another best seller is a success.
Success is the peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-
satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do your best to
become the best that you are capable of becoming.
- Coach John Wooden, American Basketball player
Success is an attitude. Success requires maximum effort. It is
peace of mind and a state of mind. Your success should never be
determined by the approval or recognition of others. If so, you
will live a highly disappointed life.
Success is the result of small efforts,
repeated day in and day out.
- Robert Collier
You already are a professional. It means you have achieved
success by completing the academic and practical training
that was prescribed for your profession. But how to be a super
successful professional? Is it that difficult? No. Not at all. It isn’t
some sort of rocket science. Being a highly successful person is
just a matter of cultivating certain habits and following those
habits religiously, day-in and day-out.

From Gaining Expertise to Authoring Books
Dear Reader,
The road to progress and development doesn’t just end with
knowledge and experience gained. Knowledge continues to grow
when it is shared among fellow aspirants.
I feel proud of the fact that I am amidst hardworking people who
have made their way to the pinnacle of success, by overcoming
obstacles and hurdles in their journey through professional life
and achieving the most needed knowledge and expertise.
My unquenchable thirst for knowledge has been my constant
inspiration to read more and gain more knowledge. It has also
been the source of motivation to author books, which has enabled
me to author 300 plus books on a wide range of subjects over a
period of time.
I find it apt to remember English Historian and Geologist Charles
Darwin’s famous quote
“In the long history of humankind those who learn to
collaborate and improvise most effectively have prevailed.”
In collaboration lies the spirit of greater achievements and carving
a niche for ourselves by setting the most inspiring example for
others to follow.
I take this opportunity to invite both budding and established
professionals/entrepreneurs/academicians/ readers to join me in
sharing the knowledge and expertise with our fellow professionals
and aspirants by developing knowledge series in the form of
books on a wide range of topics for example, business laws,
various forms of audits, Accounting Standards, arbitration and

mediation, self-help and self-development and management topics
to name a few.
It will be my pleasure to co-author books with esteemed

and its related fields.

1. SETTING REALISTIC & DEFINITE GOALS
Goal setting is the most important part of a successful life. Until
and unless you know what your destination is, you merely
wander around whiling away time. But once a destination is
decided, a proper progress can be made towards the desired
destination.
I WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL.
This cannot be a goal, for it is too vague and doesn’t define any
clear destination. But you need to define what success means to
you. It can be anything, like earning a particular sum of money
every year, or having 20 clients with 100 crore turnover or
anything that is success for you.
Once success is defined, next you need to decide the time limit
within which the desired goal needs to be achieved.
Setting unrealistic goals is equivalent to destination less travel.
So, to set goals, you must,
First define all the terms in your goal statement.
Secondly, decide the time period within which the goal is to be
achieved.
Thirdly, list down the things that need to be done, in order to
achieve the goals.
Finally, make sure the goals are reasonable, realistic and
achievable.
And do not forget to repeat the steps as frequently as possible.

2. DELEGATION OF DUTIES
It is beyond human capabilities for a person to be omnipresent
and handle every aspect of an assignment all by himself. There
has to be delegation of duties.
Delegation of work is the key to being a successful professional.
Delegation cannot be done until and unless you have an efficient,
diligent and hard working team. So, it is very important to
appoint a right candidate at right position. The understanding
amongst the team members should be such that even with
minimum communication, the message passes from one person
to another. E.g., preparing the financials of a client is a routine
job, which can be delegated to a well-qualified team.
It is only when the routine tasks or the delegatable tasks are out
of your way, that you will be able to focus on more important
tasks, the one that cannot be delegated, but are so important
that they can make or break a deal. E.g., you cannot send a
subordinate to an important client meeting, which can get you
few more clients.
Also, it shouldn’t be that in your absence, all the work comes
to a standstill. Before you step out of the office, there should be
atleast one person who is well-informed about the functioning of
your firm and who can be trusted to make correct decisions and
carry on the work in regular manner in your absence.
The division of work should be done in such a manner that
minimum time is wasted on repetition of work, but there
are internal controls and checks and everything done is self-
verifiable. In the absence of one person the work should not stop.
There should be someone in the loop to complete the work or
answer related questions.
16. How to be a super super successful professional…!!!

3. SETTING UP INTERNAL GUIDELINES
Guidelines/Rules are necessary for all the aspects of life. Your
organisation is not an exception.
Each organisation has to have guidelines relating to what
and how the work needs to be done. There has to be proper
guidelines as to what tasks are to be done? What will be
the office time? How long will be the breaks in between?
What should be the leave policy? What should be the line
of communication with the clients? What is the motto of the
organisation and what is being done to stand by it? What actions
are acceptable and what are not? So on and so forth.
If the guidelines are set, every person in association with the
organisation will know what is expected of him. Also, the set
guidelines leads to lesser conflicts as there is something to fall
back to.
Take an example. An organisation regularly sends and receives
physical mails. There has to be a predetermined routine to keep
track of all the communications sent and received. An entry may
be made in a communication book and all inward communication
may be filed in a single file, before being segregated. This will
ensure that any communication received reaches the correct
person and nothing is overlooked. If there is no proper system in
place, it is possible that an important notice maybe overlooked
or important papers misplaced, which may ultimately lead to a
bigger loss, monetary or otherwise.
Besides, with such procedures in place, even a new entrant to
the organisation can be easily accustomed to the organisational
synergies. And the Principal can focus on more important
matters, rather than wasting time on such insignificant matters.

4. SPENDING TIME FOR SELF UPDATION
Updating means putting in efforts to update something.
You’ve finished your degree. Check.
You’ve completed all your practical experience requirements so
that you can graduate. Check.
Your new job is all lined up and ready to go. Mission
accomplished.
It’s fair to say the first part of your mission is well and truly
accomplished. Sit back and give yourself a pat on the back. But
don’t take too long about it or you’ll be lagging behind your
colleagues. The same is true for professionals with many years’
experience in the workplace.
Continuing professional updation is important because it ensures
you continue to be competent in your profession. It is an ongoing
process and continues throughout a professional’s career.
Most professions conduct continuing professional education (CPE)
programs for their members. Continuing Professional Education
can be defined as a type of education that is conducted for
participants in various professional fields that consists of updated
knowledge and other pertinent information that will help these
individuals to attain broader understanding of their chosen
industry.
But it is a personal responsibility of professionals to keep
their knowledge and skills current so that they can deliver the
high quality of service that safeguards the public and meets
the expectations of customers and the requirements of their
profession. Such programs,

• ensures your capabilities keep pace with the current
standards of others in the same field.
• ensures that you maintain and enhance the knowledge and
skills you need to deliver a professional service to your
customers, clients and the community.
• ensures that you and your knowledge stay relevant and
up to date. You are more aware of the changing trends
and directions in your profession. The pace of change is
probably faster than it’s ever been – and this is a feature of
the new normal that we live and work in. If you stand still
you will get left behind, as the currency of your knowledge
and skills becomes out-dated.
• helps you continue to make a meaningful contribution to
your team. You become more effective in the workplace.
This assists you to advance in your career and move into
new positions where you can lead, manage, influence,
coach and mentor others.
• helps you to stay interested and interesting. Experience is
a great teacher, but it does mean that we tend to do what
we have done before. Focused CPD opens you up to new
possibilities, new knowledge and new skill areas.
• can deliver a deeper understanding of what it means to
be a professional, along with a greater appreciation of the
implications and impacts of your work.
• helps advance the body of knowledge and technology
within your profession
• can lead to increased public confidence in individual
professionals and their profession as a whole
• Depending on the profession – CPD contributes to
improved protection and quality of life, the environment,
sustainability, property and the economy. This particularly

applies to high risk areas, or specialised practice areas
which often prove impractical to monitor on a case by case
basis.
The importance of continuing professional development should
not be underestimated – it is a career-long obligation for
practicing professionals.
In keeping yourself up to date with the current happenings, you
wont only learn new things, but it will also give ideas regarding
what fields can be taken up for the expansion of the practice.

5. PERIODICAL REVIEW OF THE TEAM
Performance evaluations are one of the most important
communication tools an organization can use. They need not be
complicated; they just need to be done. Performance evaluations
benefit both employee and employer. It is a time to provide
feedback, recognize quality performance and set expectations
for future job performance. It is also a time to have candid
conversations about performance that is lacking and how
performance can be improved. Ongoing performance discussions
can assist in avoiding serious problems in the future.
A few basic tips make evaluations successful.
• Conduct evaluations on all employees on a regular schedule,
atleast once a month, so employees know it is a regular part
of their employment.
• Prepare in advance looking back at the employees’
performance over the entire review period so you can
discuss their performance in a meaningful way.
• Give employee notice so they can also be prepared to
discuss issues or concerns.
• Share the floor by allowing the employee equal time to talk.
• Don’t dread the process, enjoy the opportunity to talk with
your employees about how both they and your organization
can be successful.
• Performance reviews are not for the purpose of firing
the employees. That involves too much cost. Also,
out-of-the-box achievers are very rare and difficult to
find. So performance reviews can be used to mould the
21. How to be a super super successful professional…!!!
9
existing employees in the manner that is beneficial to the
organisation.
Periodic employee evaluation is one of the factors to effective
employee engagement with organisation goals. An engaged
employee not only performs 100% of his or her duties but
also has a positive impact on the team in which he or she
works. Also, an engaged employee is the source of employee
recommendations and a natural ambassador representing the
organisation, which constitutes quite an advantage in the
recruitment process, and also in developing the image of the
organisation.

6. BUILD A GOOD LIBRARY
It is an age old saying “books are man’s best friends”.
Have you ever been super confused about some decision, and just
to divert your mind, you pick up a book and start reading? And
while reading, your mind throws a brilliant idea to remove your
confusion? That’s the power of books.
A good library consists of not only professional books, but books
of all genres. For professionals, besides professional books, self
help books, religious books are also quite helpful.
Being surrounded by good books is a bliss. They act as the stress
buster. A good book keeps the mind engaged and leads to good
ideas.
Reading good books leads to expansion of your vocabulary
and helps master the language. Learning new words and
means of expression is a process. We move from a passive use
(understanding what something means) to an active use (actually
using it ourselves). Even if you stumble across a word you’re not
sure about or have never even seen before (and you will!) as you
read, you can often figure out the gist at the very least, through
context and educated guessing. You will come across countless,
exciting ways to describe all sorts of different situations and
emotions. Eventually, you will naturally adapt these and be able
to use them yourself. And who doesn’t recognise and respect
someone’s eloquence in their writing or speech? Good vocabulary
is a part of the soft skills for any professional.
Being articulate and well-spoken is of great help in any
profession, and knowing that you can speak to higher-ups with
self-confidence can be an enormous boost to your self-esteem.
It could even aid in your career, as those who are well-read,
23. How to be a super super successful professional…!!!
11
well-spoken, and knowledgeable on a variety of topics tend to
get promotions more quickly (and more often) than those with
smaller vocabularies and lack of awareness of literature, scientific
breakthroughs, and global events.
Reading books is also vital for learning new languages, as non-
native speakers gain exposure to words used in context, which
will ameliorate their own speaking and writing fluency.
When you read a good book, you need to be focused and
concentrate on each word. Everyone is familiar with the feeling
of having read the same sentence multiple times without actually
processing it. Extracting meaning from writing is a skill, and one
that you can transfer to general areas of the profession.
The time devoted to read a book helps in the process of updation.
This further enables a professional to confidently participate in
discussions and garner an image of a smart and well-informed
person. This image itself is responsible in attracting work.
Everything you read fills your head with new bits of information,
and you never know when it might come in handy. The more
knowledge you have, the better-equipped you are to tackle any
challenge you’ll ever face. Should you ever find yourself in dire
circumstances, remember that although you might lose everything
else—your job, your possessions, your money, even your health—
knowledge can never be taken from you.
There is no better stress buster than reading a book. No
matter how much stress you have at work, in your personal
relationships, or countless other issues faced in daily life, it
all just slips away when you lose yourself in a great story. A
well-written novel can transport you to other realms, while an
engaging article will distract you and keep you in the present
moment, letting tensions drain away and allowing you to relax.
Exposure to published, well-written work has a noted effect on
one’s own writing, as observing the cadence, fluidity, and writing
styles of other authors will invariably influence your own work.
24. How to be a super super successful professional…!!!
12
In the same way that musicians influence one another and
painters use techniques established by previous masters, so do
writers learn how to craft prose by reading the works of others.
In addition to the relaxation that accompanies reading a good
book, it’s possible that the subject you read about can bring about
immense inner peace and tranquillity.
Reading spiritual texts can lower blood pressure and bring about
an immense sense of calm, while reading self-help books has
been shown to help people suffering from certain mood disorders.
Thus, the benefits of good books can never be undermined, and
being surrounded with books is the biggest boon.
25. How to be a super super successful professional…!!!

7. APPLICATIONS TO BE ON PANEL
As professionals, you must be aware that there are panels
of experts maintained by all the big organisations, banks,
companies, etc. Whenever jobs are to be done, it is generally
allocated to someone from the panel. Panels are maintained for
the appointment of Independent Directors, Arbitrators, Internal
Auditors, Stock Auditors, etc.
As a professional, you can apply to the companies/banks
maintaining such panels to be on the panels, as per your
qualifications. Making such applications is not against the Code
of Conduct of any profession.
26. How to be a super super successful professional…!!!
14
8. MOVE OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE
Staying in your comfort zone and doing only what you are
comfortable with, will never take you too far. Just because you
are good at accounting doesn’t mean you limit your self only to
that task. Because there is only so much that you can do in a
particular field.
You need to come out of your comfort zone. Learn new things.
Update yourself and gain mastery in other tasks also. Until and
unless you diversify, you cannot expect to gain unprecedented
growth. Generally, every person is afraid to try something
new. Something that he has not done before. Your actions are
dominated by your inherent fears.
Fear is one of the many emotions a person goes through at
various points in life. Fear is a sort of bad feeling or a feeling
of uneasiness that one faces due to threats caused by unknown
danger, pain or harm. It is a negative emotion. It is nothing more
than the state of mind.
Fear is an emotion at the back of your mind, which stops you
from taking risks. It doesn’t tell you, ‘its just a fear, go ahead and
do what you think you should.’ But it screams and stops you in
your tracks, saying, ‘the pain of failure is unbearable. So, don’t
even try doing it. You can’t do it. It won’t work. Stop where you
are.’
And, we do exactly what it demands from us. We do not dare
think it out logically. Because our minds are so wired since the
early day of evolution.
As we can see, it is a voice from the back of your mind. But then
when you keep on repeatedly thinking about your fears and how
27. How to be a super super successful professional…!!!
15
its going to be a dreadful thing to do, you make a mountain of
a mole hill. We build a huge wall of our fears, so huge and so
strong that we would never be able to scale it and go to the other
side.
Fear of unknown hampers a person’s growth, his risk-taking
capacity. The fear of what could happen will lead to nothing
happening. A businessman may not venture into a new direction
for the fear of making losses, and in the process, may lose a lot
of business and potential profits. A fear of water cannot make one
a great swimmer. Fear of death will not allow you to live your
lives to the fullest.
Fear tells you to not try. It looks through your past and shows
you all the times that you and others have failed, and projects
that into your idea of the future. It is an unfounded thought,
which means you have the choice to see it in one of two different
lights: you can choose to perceive only the danger and let that
uneasy feeling in your gut stop you. Or you can decide to see it
as possible.
Fear in your minds become so strong that you see, think and
believe whatever it makes you do. You never select the other
option of looking beyond the fears and reason with your minds
that this is the worst-case scenario, and it happens only in worst
cases, not in all. You cannot reason with yourselves that the
probability of your case falling in the worst case is negligible
against the probability of it succeeding.

16
9. PRIORITISING TASKS
Each one of us has 24 hours per day, i.e., 86,400 seconds. But
still, you can see some people doing so many things and still
have time to sit back and relax, while the others struggle to even
complete the deadline task. Why is it so?
The main difference lies in the working style of the two people.
the one who plans his day in advance and works according to
his plans is bound to have some time to relax and rejuvenate,
because since all his tasks are pre-planned there is no last minute
rush to complete an important job. The other person, who does
whatever meets his eyes is bound to miss out on important tasks
or realise that those tasks are incomplete in the nick of time.
Then they would have to rush to complete those tasks, leading
to doing the job with less than 100% dedication or missing out
the deadlines.
It is said things that matter the most should not be at the mercy
of things that which matter the least.
All tasks—especially large, complex projects—need clear
priorities. Easier said than done. You can count on technical
things, no matter how well-planned, to involve change orders,
re-prioritization and the regular appearance of surprises. It’s just
the natural order of things.
But still knowing how to prioritize work affects the success of
your project, the engagement of your team, and your role as a
leader.
One of the biggest challenges for managers and leaders is
accurately prioritizing the work that matters on a daily basis.
Even if you have the best management software on the planet,
29. How to be a super super successful professional…!!!
17
you’re the one who enters information into the tool. And, you
don’t want to fall into the role of crying “top priority” for every
other project that comes down the pike.
Just as you have to be diligent and have the right kind of
assignment insight to ensure that nobody’s working on yesterday’s
priorities. It takes a lot of practice to get this right.
To help you manage your team’s workload and hit deadlines, here
are steps to prioritizing assignments:
1. Collect a list of all your tasks
Pull together everything you could possibly consider getting done
in a day. Don’t worry about the order, or the number of items up
front.
2. Identify urgent vs. important
The next step is to see if you have any tasks that need immediate
attention. We’re talking about work that, if not completed
by the end of the day or in the next several hours, will have
serious negative consequences (missed client deadline; missed
publication or release deadlines, etc.). Check to see if there are
any high-pri dependencies that rely on you finishing up a piece
of work now.
3. Assess value
Next, look at your important work and identify what carries the
highest value to your business and organization. As a general
practice, you want to recognize exactly which types of tasks have
top priority over the others.
For example, focus on client projects before internal work; setting
up the new CEO’s computer before re-configuring the database;
answering support tickets before writing training materials, and
so on. Another way to assess value is to look at how many people
are impacted by your work. In general, the more people involved
or impacted, the higher the stakes.
30. How to be a super super successful professional…!!!
18
4. Order tasks by estimated effort
If you have tasks that seem to tie for priority standing, check
their estimates, and start on whichever one you think will take
the most effort to complete. Productivity experts suggest the tactic
of starting the lengthier task first. But, if you feel like you can’t
focus on your meatier projects before you finish up the shorter
task, then go with your gut and do that. It can be motivating to
check a small task off the list before diving into deeper waters.
5. Be flexible and adaptable
Uncertainty and change are a given. Know that your priorities
will change, and often when you least expect them to. But—and
here’s the trick—you also want to stay focused on the tasks you’re
committed to completing.
6. Know when to cut
You probably can’t get to everything on your list. After you
prioritize your tasks and look at your estimates, cut the remaining
tasks from your list, and focus on the priorities that you know
you must and can complete for the day. Then take a deep breath,

This time management matrix was popularised by Stephen Covey,
the author of the book The Seven Habits of Highly Successful
People. It makes it easy to figure out what you “need” to be doing
with your time and attention.
• In Quadrant 1 (top left) we have important, urgent items –
items that need to be dealt with immediately.
• In Quadrant 2 (top right) we have important, but not
urgent items – items that are important but do not require
your immediate attention, and need to be planned for.
This quadrant is highlighted because Covey emphasizes
this is the quadrant that we should focus on for long term
achievement of goals.

• In Quadrant 3 (bottom left) we have urgent, but
unimportant items – items which should be minimized or
eliminated. These are the time sucks, the “poor planning
on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part”
variety of tasks.
• In Quadrant 4 (bottom right) we have unimportant and also
not urgent items – items that don’t have to be done anytime
soon, perhaps add little to no value and also should be
minimized or eliminated. These are often trivial time
wasters.
As you can see, the two main criteria on which you evaluate
tasks are urgency and importance. Urgent activities require
immediate attention; important ones contribute to your mission,
values, and goals. You’ll want to focus most of your energy on
activities that are important but non-urgent - a.k.a the activities
that fall in Quadrant II.
According to Covey, Quadrant II includes relationship-building,
recognizing new opportunities, planning, and prevention.
You’ll want to stay out of Quadrant I, which is filled primarily
with crises; Quadrant III, which includes interruptions and
unnecessary meetings; and Quadrant IV, which includes busy
work and time wasters.
It sounds simple enough, but the problem is that we’re far more
likely to deal with urgent activities, regardless of importance,
because we can see them right in front of our faces. Think an
email coming in, a phone ringing, or a coworker barging into
your cubicle.
Covey writes: “Urgent matters are usually visible. They press
on us; they insist on action. They’re often popular with others.
They’re usually right in front of us. And often they are pleasant,
easy, fun to do. But so often they are unimportant!”

Quadrant II activities, on the other hand, don’t have the same
immediate consequences, so we’re less likely to attend to them.
As a consequence, Covey says, you’ll end up with fewer Quadrant
I activities to deal with: “Your crises and problems would shrink
to manageable proportions because you would be thinking ahead,
working on the roots, doing the preventive things that keep
situations from developing into crisis”.
These are few of the points that contribute to you being a super
successful professional. Following certain routines religiously and
making them habits and a part of day-to-day activities leads to
greater benefits in the long run.
