What is Policy
• Policy extends the functionality of an API and enforces certain capabilities such as security.
• Can control access and traffic.
• Policies are designed to let you add common types of management capabilities to an API
easily and reliably
• Auto deployment : No application/server reboot

Polices in MULE 4
• All policies are non-blocking, which is described in Mule 4 documentation.
• All policies except CORS, which is executed first, can be ordered.
• Resource level policy support, which was restricted to RAML-based APIs, is extended to any
HTTP API.
• You can distribute policies outside of the runtime, which simplifies upgrades.

Automated policies enables your Anypoint Platform instance to comply with common security and
logging requirements by automatically applying the same set of policies to all APIs running in a
single environment
Available from MULE 4.x
Can control at version level by enabling Rule of Application

Custom polices

Custom Policies are policies that anyone can develop and apply to their APIs, with the intention of
extending existing functionality or defining new ones.
The current workflow to get a working policy for Mule 4 that can be applied in Anypoint Platform
consists of:
1. Develop the policy.
2. Package the policy.
3. Upload the resulting policy assets to Exchange.
4. Apply the policy to any API through API Manager.
