Patent Prosecution refers to the process of getting a granted patent, starting from the writing and filing of the patent
application to seeking protection for the patent application at the Patent Office. It also includes all the communications to
and from the Patent Office, right from the start of filing till the grant of patent application. We assist our clients to meet
their business requirements effectively by providing all possible support to our clients in completing all the filing
formalities within the stipulated timeline and also ensuring minimum office action communications from the Patent
Office.
A US based AM100 law firm
Challenges
Our Solution
On the basis of initially shared information, we identified a set of key features from the shared invention
disclosure.
Various key word and concept based search strategies were formulated using paid databases. Native-language
databases such as PAJ/KIPRIS/CIPO/SIPO were also analyzed.
An exhaustive IPC, CPC and US class-based search, followed by leading Inventor(s) and Assignee(s) based
searches were conducted. About 1000 - 1500 patents were analyzed. The best results were shortlisted.
NPL searching was performed thoroughly on all major domain specific databases such as IEEE, Scirus,
scholar, CiteSEER, Google, etc.
The Bibliographic summary, key strings as well as detailed Mapping Scorecard of the two relevant patent
literatures and three relevant Non-patent Literatures were provided in the search report, whereby each key
feature was color coded in a different color.
Relevant sections were also highlighted in the PDF copies of the identified relevant patent and non-patent
literatures.

PATENTABILITY SEARCH - CASE STUDY
Specifically, the end client was interested in not more
than 5 relevant prior art references with around 60%
time of searching to be spent on non-patent literature
search and remaining time on patent searching. The
search was related to the domain of fiber optics and
communication. The final output in the form of high-
lighted PDF copies of identified relevant references
was to be provided.
IDS-IP completed this project within 5
business days and there was a financial gain
of 50% for the client.
The client was extremely pleased with the first
five search results provided to him and has
selected us as a preferred service provider for the
firm.
The client was primarily interested in the Non-Patent
Literature documents on guide pins and dust caps for
an optical module from around the globe, which
already existed.

The search is designed to assist in providing quality solutions and grounds for forming a strategy whether to go forward
with a Patent Application filing. Once we are provided with a brief disclosure of the invention, we perform an exhaustive
worldwide prior art search for all the online available documents.
A US based AM100 law firm
Challenges
Our Solution
Initially, after a thorough patent understanding, a file-wrapper estoppel analysis was conducted by a team of
three members.
The color-coded claim charts, along with claim enablement of the subject patent, were prepared to highlight
the exact working of that particular key feature element.
Broad-to-narrow search strategy was performed using various concept and keyword based search strategies
on paid databases. Native-language databases such as PAJ/KIPRIS/CIPO/SIPO were also analyzed.
An exhaustive IPC, CPC and US class-based search, followed by leading Inventor(s) and Assignee(s) based

The final word report comprised of color-coded claim charts, key strings, list of keywords used as well as
detailed mapping of the two relevant patent literatures and three relevant non-patent literatures. A total of 4
patent documents were shared with the client.
Relevant sections were also highlighted in the PDF copies of the identified relevant patent and non-patent

INVALIDITY SEARCH - CASE STUDY
The client wanted us to conduct an invalidation search
on a specific independent claim of the subject patent.
In addition, the client also asked us to find relevant
non-patent literature documents.
IDS-IP completed the project within 14
business days. There was a financial gain of
40% for the client.
As per the client, most of the relevant references
provided could be used in litigation and both the
references were 102 references. The NPL
documents provided were also able to crack the
inventive step of the Subject Patent.
The client was interested in an Invalidity Search of the
Subject Patent in the domain of securing tissues using
multiple anchors. The client was primarily interested
in the Non-Patent Literature documents from around

All we require for this search from you is a Patent Number and/or a specific claim set that you would like us to focus
upon. We will start with the file wrapper analysis and then a prior art search for any document or evidence of use of the
patented invention before the first effective filing date of the subject patent is conducted. In case you have been sued for
infringing a patent, you may use Invalidity search as a tool to try and invalidate that patent. The highlight of claim charts
is the "Claim Enablement" portion, where we define each element of the claim w.r.t. its functioning as mentioned in its
description.
A US based Fortune 100 retail firm
Challenges
IDS Solution
For Phase-I, we identified all subsidiaries (tier 1 to tier n), associates or acquisitions done by the target
companies. The identified subsidiaries and target companies were used to extract patents from paid patent
databases, Thomson Innovation and Total Patents. The total bucket comprised of around 3800 patents.
Nearly 40% of this bucket was analyzed to remove duplicates and other junk patents or Assignees. The
analysis was Title-Abstract-Claim based. Relevant IPC and CPC classes of this bucket were analyzed to identify
any relevant domain that would have been missed otherwise.
A final categorization sheet with analysis of first random 25% data set (close to 1000 patents) and proposed
taxonomy was prepared and shared with the client for final comments and approval.
In Phase-II, upon client’s approval, remaining 75% data was analyzed on Full Text basis, focusing primarily
on Independent Claims for Categorization of these patents under various nodes and sub-nodes of the
proposed taxonomy. The taxonomy was modified accordingly using data from relevant patents.
Phase-III: The final patent set was 1478 patents, categorized in 102 sub-nodes of 7 major nodes. The output
comprised of an Excel Sheet containing analysis of the 1478 relevant patents, a Graphical Representation
(2D & 3D) showing trends being followed by target companies and a detailed Report provided on the IDS
Web Library Platform.
Legal status and expiry date analysis was also provided to the client.

COMPETITIVE INTELLIGENCE ANALYSIS - CASE STUDY
The client wanted us to closely analyze its target
competitors and identify all the relevant domains in
which the latter had filed their patents. The client had
provided us with a list of about 20 target competitors.
IDS-IP completed the project within 20 busi-
ness days and there was a financial gain of
50% for the client.
The client was extremely pleased with the report
and was able to present the report in front of
non-patent-related business people, clearly
outlining the statistics and trends. The client has
asked us for Quarterly Updates of the same for
the next 3 years.
The client was interested in closely analyzing around
20 target competitors in the domain of online and
retail shopping and wanted us to provide patent port-
folios for all of them covering Jurisdictions: US, CA,
MX and WO.

Relevant IPC and CPC classes of this bucket were analyzed to identify any relevant domain that would have been missed otherwise. A final categorization sheet with analysis of first random 25% data set (close to 1000 patents) and proposed taxonomy was prepared and shared with the client for final comments and approval. In Phase-II, upon client’s approval, remaining 75% data was analyzed on Full Text basis, focusing primarily on Independent Claims for Categorization of these patents under various nodes and sub-nodes of the proposed taxonomy. The taxonomy was modified accordingly using data from relevant patents. Phase-III: The final patent set was 1478 patents, categorized in 102 sub-nodes of 7 major nodes. The output comprised of an Excel Sheet containing analysis of the 1478 relevant patents, a Graphical Representation (2D & 3D) showing trends being followed by target companies and a detailed Report provided on the IDS Web Library Platform. Legal status and expiry date analysis was also provided to the client. Benefits Feedback Client Client’s Requirement Enabling Success... COMPETITIVE INTELLIGENCE ANALYSIS - CASE STUDY The client wanted us to closely analyze its target competitors and identify all the relevant domains in which the latter had filed their patents.
