1. Letter of Recommendation for Rafael Vecchi
To whom it may concerned,
It has been requested that I provide a letter of recommendation for Rafael Vecchi.
I was the hiring manager that hired Rafael to work in an internship position in May of 2011.
I have worked closely with Rafael during the time that he has been working here at Novatek.
He has been an outstanding engineer, employee, and co worker.
I would like to describe one experience, of many, that may convey the caliber of Rafael’s
character.
At Novatek, we do research and development in super-materials that work in extreme
working conditions. One of the places these materials are applied is in earth drilling bits. We
had come up with a new design for diamond cutting insert and self stabilizing bit to carry that
incorporated the new design. In the field testing of the new diamonds and bits, we were
finding repeated wear patterns with the inserts and needed a way to quantify and record it
three dimensionally for future reference. It was decided that a 3-D scanner would allow us to
measure, record and quantify wear during the bit testing.
Rafael was simply handed the new scanner and given the task to figure out how to make it
work, speed up the scan times and apply the technology to field testing. He was rapidly
using the new tool to help in the research and development process without the luxury of
anyone to teach him. When there was a request from management or other engineers he was
the one to field and fill the requests. He has since become the scanning specialist for the
entire organization.
This is just one example where Rafael demonstrated his resourcefulness, outside of the box
thinking, ability to work with other engineers, and various vendors, ability to model and
quantify a system mathematically, understanding of material properties, and solid work ethic.
