1. I have chosen to use the concept of Qi to guide the develop-
ment of the spa design. Qi refers to the balance of the inner self and
the flow of energy within. In this case, Qi is a combination of flow within
the space, balancing the minds of patients, and restoring their physical
health back to what it once was. The Oasis heals the mind & the body
while restoring the Qi to its proper balance.
The core objective of Mountain Oasis is to provide an emotion-
al, physical, and sensory experience that is both safe and relax-
ing. The Massage Rooms, Relaxation Room, Lobby, and Consultation
Room are all located on one side of the building in order to maintain low
noise levels for those who are trying to relax and find peace. The re-
strooms act as a divider between the calm half of the spa and the ener-
getic Fitness Center & Pool on the other.
The pool, lush vegetation, intense mood lighting, and water
feature create an "oasis" within the spa. It is an inner sanctuary that
allows the user to become deeply relaxed. The oasis is visible from the
Fitness Center, Lobby, central hallway, and the Consultation Room.
All spaces are universal and ADA compliant to allow anyone to
use the space naturally. Navigation and movement throughout the
spaces are made easy by the labeled signage at eye level, large walk-
ways and turning radiuses, grab bars, and large grip door handles.
Mountain Oasis Spa is a place that gives Multiple Sclerosis pa-
tients a retreat from the symptomatic rigors of the disease,
and a therapeutic engagement with the treatment regimen.
