Institute Objectives
—————————————
Purpose:
 Meet the learning needs of nurses working
with children and families in school settings as
well as clinical nursing faculty utilizing the
school setting for learning purposes.
 Provide learners with knowledge and skills
needed to work effectively with multiple
stakeholders interested in the health and
wellness of school aged children and adoles-
cents.
Objectives:
 Describe the knowledge and skills needed to
be successful in high stakes conversations at
work and at home.
 Apply effective communication approaches to
selected high stakes school based scenarios.
 Construct persuasive health messages tai-
lored to key stakeholders; teachers, parents,
children, teens; incorporating criteria for
health literacy.
 Identify evidence based interventions to posi-
tively impact childhood obesity in a school
setting.
