Institute Objectives

Purpose:
Meet the learning needs of nurses working
with children and families in school settings as
well as clinical nursing faculty utilizing the
school setting for learning purposes.
Provide learners with knowledge and skills
needed to work effectively with multiple
stakeholders interested in the health and
wellness of school aged children and adoles-
cents.
Objectives:
Describe the knowledge and skills needed to
be successful in high stakes conversations at
work and at home.
Apply effective communication approaches to
selected high stakes school based scenarios.
Construct persuasive health messages tai-
lored to key stakeholders; teachers, parents,
children, teens; incorporating criteria for
health literacy.
Identify evidence based interventions to posi-
tively impact childhood obesity in a school
setting.
