3. INTRODUCTION:
Gandhiji was a champion of women’s
equality. According to him, men and
women are one. They have the same
soul. In short, men and women
complement each other.
4. Views on tradition:
Gandhiji was not blind adherence to
tradition. People follows tradition blindly just
because they are ancient. In that name, some
superstitious practices like child marriage
came into existence. Gandhiji hate such
practices that they harm human diginity.
5. Experiments with truth: To Gandhiji, God is
truth. When Gandhiji knew the way of truth, he
followed it fearlessly. He had great love for truth.
He experimented with truth in his relation to
women particularly to his wife, Kasturba. To him, a
man can see truth when he is non-violent.
6. Embodiment of Ahimsa and Satyagraha: Gandhiji
considered women as embodiment of Ahimsa
and Satyagraha. Ahimsa means infinite love
and infinite capacity for suffering. Satyagraha
means soul force. It is the power of
enlightened non-violence.
7. Only women have infinite love and
infinite capacity for suffering. Women are
neither passive nor timid as proved in the
characters of Sita, Savitri, Damayanti and
Draupadi.
8. Conclusion: In moral power, women are
superior to men. Women are noble. They are
the messengers of non-violence. So to call
them the weaker sex is a libel. Gandhiji calls
them “the female sex”.
