2. PETRUCHIO
• My charater is petruchio from the taming of
the shrew
• Petruchio is a protagonist with kate as he
struggle with katherine to tame her into
submission.
• The taming of the shrew is a comedy by
william shakespeare. Written in 1590 and 1591
• The Taming of the Shrew is set in Padua and the
countryside near Verona. It is set in 1590.
3. Baptista, a rich Paduan merchant, announces that his fair young
daughter, Bianca, will remain unwed until her older sister, Katharina, a
hellish shrew, has wed. Lucentio, a student and the son of a wealthy
Pisan merchant, has fallen in love with Bianca. He poses as a tutor of
music and poetry to gain entrance to the Baptista household and to be
near Bianca. Meanwhile, Petruchio, a fortune-hunting scoundrel from
Verona, arrives in Padua, hoping to capture a wealthy wife.
Hortensio, another suitor of Bianca, directs Petruchio's attention to
Katharina. When Hortensio warns him about Katharina's scolding
tongue and fiery temper, Petruchio is challenged and resolves to capture
her love. Hortensio and another suitor of Bianca, Gremio, agree to
cover Petruchio's costs as he pursues Katharina
4. Man vs. Man: Petruchio is challenged and resolves to capture
Kate’s love.
Man vs. society: petruchio struggles to tame Kate into
submission
Man vs. self: petruchio cant contian himself
5. PERSON VS PERSON: It doesn't take much to
convince Baptista that Petruchio should be allowed
to marry Kate. Baptista says Kate must give the
green light but the deal is pretty much done before
Petruchio even sees Katherine. When the two meet
Kate is insulting and the two verbally spar for a few
rounds. She wants nothing to do with Petruchio but
he announces that Kate has no choice in the matter
he wants her and that's that.
6. Beginning
• At the beginning Petruchio is a wealthy bachelor
who is on the prowl for a rich wife. Petruchio
sees himself as the ultimate shrew taming
champion he even tutors other men on how to
get their wives in line. He has a relationship at
the start of the play with Katherine. He marries
he despite she has a reputation of a shrew.
• He behaves very kindly to others because he is a
shrew tamer.
7. Initial Situation
Kate's shrewish behavior and attitude leave her with zero marriage prospects
and a difficult relationship with her family. Petruchio is looking for a rich wife.
Conflict
Baptista says Petruchio can marry Kate but Kate hates Petruchio and continues
to be a shrew.
Complication
Petruchio marries Kate and begins his shrew-taming campaign. Climax
Kate submits to Petruchio's will on the road to Padua.
Suspense
Everybody says Kate is still a shrew. Petruchio bets that she's the most obedient
wife.
Denouement
Petruchio wins the bet. Kate delivers a speech about a woman's obligation to
obey her husband.
Conclusion
Petruchio and Kate run off to bed.
8. First Petruchio acts like a shrew on his wedding day
and throughout the honeymoon so that Kate can
see what her bad behavior looks like in another
person. This involves a lot of yelling, swearing the
abuse of servants, and erratic and cruel behavior
toward Kate. Basically Petruchio deploys some tried
and true torture techniques to get Kate to behave
the way he wants.
9. At the end of the play
petruchio has learnt that its
better to be kind and nice
than bad and angry. Then
petruchio and kate run off
to be.
10. • My remedy is then to pluck it out
• Come, come, you wasp, i’faith you are too angry.
• Signior Hortensio, 'twixt such friends as we
Few words suffice; and therefore, if thou know
One rich enough to be Petruchio's wife,
As wealth is burden of my wooing dance,
Be she as foul as was Florentius' love,
As old as Sibyl and as curst and shrewd
As Socrates' Xanthippe, or a worse,
She moves me not, or not removes, at least,
Affection's edge in me, were she as rough
As are the swelling Adriatic seas:
I come to wive it wealthily in Padua;
If wealthily, then happily in Padua.
