In April 1 US dollar is equal to 24,000
marks but in December it raised to
98,860,000 marks.
It is a situation when prices rise
phenomenally high.

at 1933
• The Great Depression is also called as
Economic crisis
• It came due to crashing ofWall Street
Exchange in USA as a result there is a fall in
prises. It was during the Great Depression
that Nazism became a mass movement .As
we have seen ,after 1929 ,books collapsed
and businesses shut down ,workers lost
their jobs and the middle classes were
threatened with destitution.

could not hope for either wage or
shelter. On winter nights when they
wanted a shelter over their head,
they had to pay to sleep like this.

5. IMPACT OF GREAT DEPRESSION ON GERMANY
Impact of Great Depression on Germany was :
Great Depression led to economic crises in Germany.
By 1932 industrial production in Germany was reduced to 40% of the 1929 level
Wages of the employed workers were also reduced.
Workers lost their jobs and unemployment reached 6 million
Criminal activities also increased and there was total hopeless all over the country
Business got ruined and the section of society feared that there will come to the level of the working class
The savings of the middle class and salaried employees reduced drastically due to the depreciation of the
German currency.
The business of the small businessmen and retailers suffered because the purchasing power of the people
reduced.
6. WHAT ENDED THE GREAT DEPRESSION
In 1932, the country elected Franklin D. Roosevelt as president. He promised to
create federal government programs to end the Great Depression
Within 100 days, he signed the New Deal into law, creating 42 new agencies
throughout its lifetime.They were designed to create jobs, allow unionization,
and provide unemployment insurance.
Many of these programs still exist.They help safeguard the economy and prevent
another depression.
