2. A registered service provider is a provider who has registered services
and is approved by NDIS. Unregistered providers may be providing
these services which are valid but they have not completed their
approval process so they are not registered. Agent-managed members
can only access registered providers. Persons under planned or
independent control can access both registered and unregistered. When
you start an NDIS plan with Disability Support Worker Hornsby,
consider which service you want to access and whether the plan
management agency or the autonomous agency is the best option. One
of the main differences is that only registered providers can request
invoices directly from NDIS, while unregistered providers send invoices
to you or your plan manager for payment. Members hiring unregistered
providers must manually request a refund from NDIS through the NDIS
portal. Alternatively, you can request a refund from your plan manager.
3. Why are some service providers not
registered?
NDIS recommends registering a service provider, but this
process can be time consuming, costly, and difficult on the part
of the service provider. For this reason, many service providers
choose not to register with the NDIA. Small businesses and sole
proprietors often do not register, and even large companies
may choose not to register. This effectively marks you as an
"unregistered service provider." It is important to note that just
because a service provider chooses to remain unregistered with
NDIS does not mean that you should not use that service. Many
unregistered service providers offer members essential and
highly qualified services. These services are still subject to
NDIS, but funding for these services must be at a specified
price. Otherwise, you will have to pay the gap.
4. The risk of hiring an unregistered service provider is minimal.
Many of these service providers use their skills to improve the
lives of people with disabilities. However, unlike NDIS registered
suppliers, there are no restrictions on unregistered suppliers and
you do not have to comply with the same NDIS Commission
quality and safety requirements. That is, no audit is performed to
ensure compliance with these requirements. If you want to hire
an unregistered service provider, it's best to talk to your plan
manager. If you are self-employed, you can request certification
or other credentials from the unregistered service provider of
your choice. Commissions that unregistered providers may
charge should still be considered reasonable and market price.
Also, if you are contracting with an unregistered service provider,
make sure you have a written service contract so that you know
exactly what you agree with in advance so that neither party is
misunderstood. It is recommended.

5. WHY CHOOSE AN UNREGISTERED SERVICE PROVIDER?
There are several reasons why members may want to hire an unregistered service provider instead of a
registered service provider.
These reasons include:
1. Access to a wide range of service networks to meet your needs.
2. Before moving to NDIS, I have already hired an unregistered service provider and would like to
continue to provide services.
3. You may not be able to find the correct registered service provider for you in your area.
4. You believe that the options of your registered service provider are not suitable for you in terms of
personality or specific needs.
6. Whatever you choose to contact an unregistered provider, if you're not
sure if you can talk directly to your plan manager, support coordinator,
community coordinator, or the provider you want to work with.
How do I access an unregistered service provider? Access to unregistered
service providers must be either plan-managed or self-managed. If your
agency manages and wants to hire an unregistered service provider, talk
to your LAC or NDIA representative about switching to a plan or self-
management instead. You can choose to manage your NDIS funding plan
by making a request under "Better Life Options" during a plan meeting. It
comes to you at no additional cost and is included in your NDIS plan.
