Controlled release iodine dressings were found to significantly improve wound healing outcomes compared to silver dressings. There was significant evidence that controlled release iodine dressings supported greater complete healing by weeks 4-6 when used with compression therapy, and also showed faster healing rates even without compression therapy. Controlled release iodine also demonstrated significantly lower treatment costs than other dressings. IodoFoam is the only controlled release iodine dressing that has full Medicare reimbursement.
1. • Improved Outcomes: For topical preparations, there was
significant evidence to support the use of controlled release iodine
dressings.1
• In combination with compression therapy, there was significant
evidence of greater complete healing1 by weeks 4 through 6.
• Even in the absence of compression therapy, there remained
significant evidence of faster healing rates1 for controlled release
iodine dressings (p<0.05).
• Alternatively, significant evidence to support improved
outcomes was not found for silver dressings in no less than
three separate and independent Cochrane Reviews.2,3,4
• Cost to Treat: Controlled release iodine demonstrated significantly
less costs1 in dollars per cm2 of wound area reduction.
Reimbursement / Access: IodoFoam® is the only controlled
release iodine dressing with full & defined Medicare reimbursement.
