4. The case of PHILADELPHIA STARBUCKS is
one of the best example of Ethical leadership.
After becoming CEO of Starbucks,
Kevin Johnson faced a leadership test.
Two black men were arrested in a Philadelphia
Starbucks.
The men were waiting to meet a business
associate. The store manager asked them to
leave because they were not ordering
anything and when manager forced them to
order or leave but they refused same.
Then manager called the cops to take strict
action against them.

6. "We apologize to the two individuals and our
customers and are disappointed this led to an
arrest," the initial statement read. "We take these
matters seriously and clearly have more work to
do when it comes to how we handle incidents in
our stores."
Statement by CEO after this incident:
• Starbucks announced it would temporarily close
8,000 stores to conduct unconscious bias training
•Released a new policy “Use of Third Place Policy”,
which states that anyone can use Starbucks and its
facilities without making a purchase

•The nurse choose to share the information of Mr. Green's suicide attempt with other health care
professionals.
•The nursing team followed the self-harm and suicide protocol & maintained the effective communication
with Mr. Green.
• Identified the factors which cause patient's suicide attempt.
9. The patient suicide attempt
– An ethical dilemma
• In this case Mr. Green was a cancer patient who
revealed his thought to his nurse that he wants
to commit suicide as he have some weeks to live
as per medical reports.
• On the one hand, the nurse had to respect the
patient’s autonomy by keeping the secret .
• On the other hand, she possessed the
information that could help the treatment
process and thought that it was her duty to
share it with other nurses and doctors.

ETHICS:-From Starbucks case we understand that how ethical leadership should be,
and why everyone’s Rights &Values are important.
DILEMMAS:- From Mr. Green’s case we understand that how to choose between
personal values and organizational values.
