FSSC Times
As we usher in the New Year, we at the Finance Shared Service Center (FSSC) team, India,
thank you sincerely for your reassuring presence and sturdy support. It’s your immense sup-
port that has made the moments of our working together, a pleasure. In the year gone by,
we witnessed many changes reflecting on the evolvement of the true shared service center.
Divisional boundaries were dissolved and the BUs were relieved with their people &
process responsibilities in the GIP so that they can be more attentive to the business needs.
Implementation of standard metrics and KPI measurement across divisions (and sites within
a division) has really started paying off in terms of understanding the voice of the process
and subsequently efforts made to work on the improvement areas.
Partnering with the Oracle IT team, early in the implementation cycle,
helps us get closer to the business and the people within, so that offshoring
the tasks to India become easier for both the sides
I’ll say this and you’ll also agree, we’ve just scratched the surface and have
a long way to go to build a successful shared service team within GIP, that
can endure the test of time and ever changing corporate dynamics. We
hope, we’ll continue to have your support and cooperation, while we are
busy taking the FSSC to the next level.
Prasanta Padhiary,
Director-Finance Shared Services.

Journey so far:
Did You Know:
We started with 7 head-
count way back in April
2010. Now we are 33
member strong team
and still growing.
Did You Know:
There was no FSSC in
the beginning, each team
was reporting directly to
its site counterparts.
3. We merged all the small divisional teams, to
create one large FSSC, to focus better on the
current and future finance operations.
We standardized and started publishing KPI
metrics for Harsco Rail and Infrastructure di-
visions.
Transitioned AP activities for South Africa,
UK, Middle East, Slovenia, Austria, Latin
America (Metals & Minerals).
Transitioned Cash Application & GL for Slo-
venia and Austria. (Metals & Minerals).
Transitioned Billing (US, UK and AUS) & T&E
(US) Processes for Rail.
Had the first ever Internal Audit of all the
activities performed by various FSSC teams.
Working towards standardization of processes across
divisions.
Transitioning ‘other than AP’ functions, cutting across
divisions.
Initiating a quality audit to ensure data processing
accuracy.
SLAs are being worked upon and would be finalized
soon.
Metrics and KPIs would be developed around the
SLAs and shared with Business at agreed intervals.
