Project in Brief: In this work analysis of structural element was done using Finite Element
Method (FEM). The objective of this project was to find out the deflection and bending stress for
different types of beam under different loading conditions. Cantilever and simply supported
beams have been considered in this analysis.

2. In the first phase of the project, a truss problem was solved by Solid Mechanics Approach,
FEM and using ANSYS software and compared.
In the second phase of analysis, two beams under point loading and uniformly distributed
loading were considered. These beams problem were solved by using FEM as well as simulated
in ANSYS. A MATLAB program was also developed for all the beams.
In the third phase of analysis, three beam specimens were made according to American
Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). These beams were tested experimentally to obtain
deflections and bending stresses. The results were calculated theoretically as well as
computationally at different load steps. Finally all the computed and experiment results were
compared. It has been observed that the variations of the results obtained were not significant.
