These slides are about green Earth and how pollution is affecting the environment. It shows the harmful effects of water pollution and radioactive waste in it. In the end, green energy is discussed, which should be used to reduce pollution.
3. Water Pollution
• Waste from factories has becomes
hazardous to marine life.
• It is having a huge impact on their
breeding patterns.
• Eutrophication due to chemicals from
industries has led to a number of deaths.
• Global warming is increasing.
• Oil spills are increasing, which is bad for
marine life as well as for us being a
natural resource.
Marine life is suffering just because of our negligence.
We see so many pictures everyday on social media of these miserable organisms
eating plastic, even dying by entangling themselves in.
Example- Turtle eat plastic bags as they appear like Jellyfish!
Plastic in water
4. .
90% of the
worldwide ocean
debris comes from
10 rivers alone
100 million marine
animals die each
year from plastic
waste alone.
Some Statistics
• 300 Million tons of plastic gets created yearly,
and this weighs the same as the entire human
population, and 50% is single-use only.
• 1950-1998 over 100 nuclear blast tests occurred
in our oceans
5. Radioactive Waste in Water
Released, or improperly
stored radioactive particles
can seep into groundwater,
or bind to particles of dust in
the air.
Concrete, lead, or water for
γ-rays and or electron
beams should be used to
prevent seepage or leakage
of radioactive material
Radioactive material remain for a
long time. Some elements, such
as cesium-137 and strontium-90
have half-lives of approximately
30 years.
Marine organisms' eggs and larvae
are highly sensitive to radiation, since
radioactive atoms can replace other
atoms in their bodies, resulting
in radiation exposure that could alter
their DNA.
After Chernobyl nuclear reactor tragedy,
people in Belarus reported heavy, black-
coloured rain around the city of Gomel.
The greater danger for people living
in the area is the release
of radioactive particles into the air,
which can accumulate in the body,
damaging tissue over time and
causing cancer.
6. How can we change?
• Factory waste should be
filtered.
• Direct hot water should be
flown in water bodies.
• Strict government policies
against treatment of harmful
• Green energy should be
used.
• Windmills and solar panels
should be used to run
factories
• People should be educated.
7. Our Solution to Green
Earth!
GREEN
ENERGY
17%Electricity in U.S.
comes from
renewable
resources.
8. Advantages of Green Energy
• Renewable energy
won't run out.
• Maintenance require
ments are lower.
• Renewables
save money.
• Numerous health and
environmental benefits.
• Lower reliance on
foreign energy sources.
• Higher upfront cost.
• Storage Capabilities
