Every good gift comes from God, who is described as the Father of lights. As the source of all light, God does not change in the way that shadows can form during lunar or solar eclipses. All goodness and perfection originates from God above, who remains steadfast without variation.
3. Every good and perfect gift is from
above, coming down from the
Father of the heavenly lights, who
does not change like shifting
shadows.
4. Every good gift and every perfect (free,
large, full) gift is from above; it comes
down from the Father of all [that
gives] light, in [the shining of] Whom
there can be no variation [rising or
setting] or shadow cast by His turning [as
in an eclipse].
5. Every good gift and every perfect
gift is from above, and cometh
down from the Father of lights,
with whom is no variableness,
neither shadow of turning.
