THE GUITARMAN
A frightening look at music’s influence in today’s society with a glimpse of Mike
Deasy’s present ministry, leads the story. Then flash back to early days when ‘The
Guitarman’, Mike walks into opportunity’s doorway at a time when Rock & Roll is new,
and the media is creating music’s heroes, influencing America. He meets his wife
Kathie, then goes on the road with The Coasters, and a Caravan of Stars. In the LA
studios he finds himself playing with such greats as Sonny and Cher, Dr. John, The
Carpenters, and even Elvis.
The Guitarman is established, married with children, and well known as a key
player who adds those golden licks. With his buddies Hal Blane as drummer, Larry
Knechtel on keyboards, Tommy Todesco and Mike on guitar, they turn any sheet of
music into a hit record. Unfortunately the smooth road of fame becomes filled with
bumps and potholes, and unusual warnings of the mistakes being made. Drugs and
parties appeal to Mike, Kathie, and their tight group of musician friends. Then Mike
overdoses, it becomes harder and harder to find work, so Mike becomes a barber, the
same line of work as his father, but persistence opens new doors, and ‘The Guitarman’ is
once again a player in the game.

With a strong desire to be a great artist, and the help of street drugs, Mike
launches into a search for creative music. He goes to the Hopi Indian Reservation to
record their tribal favorites and hopefully use them for his musical endeavors. With that
in mind, he is introduced to Charles Manson and his gang at Spawn Ranch, they are
thought to be living like the Indians, Manson is supposed to be quite a philosopher. What
Mike finds there changes his life forever.
Mike is still tripping on mescaline a week after his visit to Manson’s weird place.
He knows something is wrong, but not how to fix it. So he tries TM, and Jungian
analysis, and then finally he goes to see Billy Graham, where he gives his life to Jesus.
Janis Joplin dies just after Jimi Hedrix, Mike had met them at the Monteray Pop Festival,
he was devastated, at that point he begins to realize the evil on the Rock & Roll scene.
It’s a long road out of that world, while working with more top liners like Helen
Ready, Little Richard, Andy Williams, and Ray Charles, Mike struggles to change his
drinking and drug habits. Victory comes with the help and prayers of the early pioneers
of Christian Contemporary Music. Buck and Annie Herring, from The Second Chapter
of Acts play a major role in his freedom from the enemy. Then he meets up with an old
acquaintance, Keith Green, who radically moves Mike into Spirit Filled Living.
After some transition time in Bible School, Mike and Kathie begin a new career,
serving The King of Kings, instead of the kings of Rock. He is introduced to Janny
Grines and they spend time ministering together as The Lord prepares Mike for full time

ministry. Once again, Mike walks right through the door of opportunity, and plays in
Kenneth Copeland’s ministry for a few years. Then they ordain him and Kathie,
releasing them to minister on their own.
One night in Calvary Temple Church, Mike begins to wage war in the Spirit at a
youth group meeting of 300 young people. A man with cancer calls long distance to the
church and says that the Lord told him to call that number, at the same time Mike is
warring against Cancer with his music.
Mike goes to Africa , to Sweden , and even to Russia to minister in an
underground church. He now uses his guitar to minister freedom to the captives, his
anointing releases the healing power of Jesus Christ. A tape he produces called “The
Road Home”, holds such anointing within the music that people across the nation are
touched and changed by the power of the Lord.
He goes to a prison in Guatamala, he plays at Levenworth, watching as the Lord
sets the captives free. The invitations keep coming, bring the Word, bring the music.
Then he is lead to minister in the High Schools, and comes with a message of life to a
world obsessed with death. More invitations; bring the Message, bring the music. The
anointing was always there in Mikes guitar playing, for a while he walked with the wrong
spirit, just like David, who was anointed King, yet ran in fear of his enemies. The
Guitarman had a time of running. Now he stands up on stage boldly proclaiming the
truth, using his music to chase away the devils and open the eyes of a generation
deceived.
