1. Peter Willoughby, Managing Director of Machine Tool
Technologies Ltd (MTT), has become a committee member
of the British Standards Institute (BSI). Peter has joined
the Machine Tool Accuracy committee, which is responsible
for the preparation, revision and amendment of British
Standards for the test conditions and accuracy of machine tools.
On becoming a committee member of the BSI, Peter said
"This is a fantastic opportunity to gain a greater understanding
of sector and industry trends both nationally and internationally
and allow us to keep abreast of the latest technical innovations
in our field. Working with fellow experts across Europe and
Worldwide will allow us to obtain a better insight into why a
standard has been developed, provide input into the future
development and shape international best practice."
Standards are a core part of MTT's business. As part of our
Machine Tool Calibration service, we use the latest in metrology
techniques to provide detailed analysis of a machine tool’s
characteristics. This is carried out using tests based upon
standards such as BS ISO 230-2, which covers the determination
of accuracy and repeatability of positioning of numerically controlled
axes.
The British Standards Institute is the UK's National Standards Body
and is responsible for the production of British Standards and the
publication of international and European standards in the UK.
There are currently over 1,200 committees, working to produce
standards for a variety of industries and business sectors, ranging
from engineering and construction to healthcare and nanotechnology.
