1. American Legion Bridges the Gap with Student Veteran Organization
Parkersburg, West Virginia – July 23th, 2015
American Legion Riders of Post 15 sponsored a local student veterans’ organization with their
transportation needs by assisting with a rental car, and fuel to and from the summit. The Veterans
Corps of West Virginia University at Parkersburg, a chapter of Student Veterans of America,
attended a leadership summit in New York City at the Google NY Headquarters. President
Peshka Calloway and Vice President Justin Williamson decided to go to the New York City
summit to learn how to create a winning business plan with the guidance of Google mentors
from July 16th-17th, 2015.
“We are thrilled to have had the assistance of our local American Legion Riders,” said Peshka
Calloway, Veterans Corps President and American Legion member. “I am very excited to brief
the American Legion on the success of the summit next month during their monthly meeting. It’s
our duty to show them how much their help had played an integral part to our success.”
“The Legion Riders are excited in bridging the gap between the older generation of veterans and
the younger generation. We hope to get more of our younger veterans involved with the
American Legion,” said Lee Starcher, American Legion Riders Director. “The American Legion
2. has been one of the driving forces of the veterans’ benefits we all have access to today.”
The Veterans Corps had also donated $500 to the American Legion Post 15 this month to show
support after the recent break in during May of this year. The funds went to assist with providing
American Legion employees with new uniforms.
“We have been and will continue to assist and provide for all of our veterans in Wood County.
The American Legion supports the success of our younger veterans and we also rely on them to
assist us with the sustainability of the organization,” said Starcher.
