of depression, demographic information, etc. were taken into consideration. The research
concluded that lack of sleep led to increased inflammation in the body and, the release of
stress hormones – which further elevated blood pressure and ultimately led to a heightened
incidence of cardiac events, including heart attacks.
According to recent data, only 28% of adults sleep for a total of 8 hours while over 30% of
US workers gets 6 hours of sleep or less. For the body to function at an optimal level,
specialists typically recommend 7 to 9 hours of deep sleep. Further research is still being
conducted to identify the exact nature of the relationship between lack of sleep and an
increased risk of stroke. Although not proven, cortisol – the stress hormone – is thought to be
responsible for the observed correlation.

2. There are, however multiple things that have been proven to reduce one’s risk of heart
disease. These include regular exercising, reduced alcohol intake, and eating a low calorie,
