Outline For Chocolate Research Paper
Chocolate has been a very important part of my life since I was growing in my mother's belly (she used to eat lots of chocolate while she was
pregnant). That's why, I decided to do some research, and then selected 5 facts so I could show them to you. 1. Chocolate has been consumed as a
liquid for 90% of its history. 2. Just as many other movies from this period, the blood used in Psycho's shower scene, wasn't fake blood but chocolate
syrup. 3. The invention of the chocolate chip cookies was an accident. In 1930, Ruth Wakefield was making some chocolate cookies when she run out
of baker's chocolate, so she used Nestle chocolate instead. Unknowlingly, she created chocolate chip cookies. Afterwards, she sold the idea to Nestle, in

Every day is a constant battle to choose the healthy food in the dining commons, to find the time to exercise can be difficult if you have a full time

stressed or overwhelmed, chocolate seems like the best solution. The times I lose the battle to my chocolate cravings, I always feel pretty guilty.
But who doesn't? Anything that tastes that delicious must not be a good idea. Though we have all come to accept that rule as truth, there is
reason to hope! Giving in to some chocolate cravings could be a real gift to your body. Chocolate does indeed have some natural health benefits. It
seems too good to be true, but it is! Science is now on chocolate's side. More and more research puts chocolate in a better light. In moderation,
chocolate can do wonders for your heart, mind, skin and more. People work their minds hard every day, and the heart should never be denied any

Benefit Of Chocolate Essay
The Health Benefits of Chocolate Everyone seems to love chocolate, and it is one of the most purchased treats on Valentine's Day for friends, family,
husbands and wives. When people are stressed, or feel like they need a comfort food, chocolate is one of the first things that comes to mind, and is
reached to soothe a troubled emotional heart. In the past, chocolate has been considered to be a 'sweet junk food' that is high in sugar and calories with
no nutritional value. But due to recent nutritional and scientific research people should be eating a bit of dark chocolate for the antioxidants and heart
healthy benefits. Chocolate has recently been researched in the science world for its high levels of antioxidants,...show more content...
Chocolate has two groups of antioxidants called flavonoids and polyphenols. Antioxidants fight against free radicals in the body. Free radicals are
unbalanced compounds created by the natural cellular processes in the body and from environmental toxins. Antioxidants are compounds including
vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals that neutralize free radicals and protect the body from their damage. The substances in antioxidants counteract
with the damaging normal effects of the body's process of oxidization. Research shows that antioxidants help in preventing the development of chronic
diseases such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer's, rheumatoid arthritis, and cataracts. In a 2000 edition of Science News Journal, Janet Raloff
supports the benefits of chocolate with the findings of antioxidants within chocolate, "Chocolate and cocoa powders are derived from beans that
contain healthy quantities of antioxidants called flavonoids which have cardiovascular benefits" (188). She continued to state that these flavonoids are
more powerful in chocolate than in vitamins, some teas, or wines. Dark chocolate can also help decrease the amount of blood clots in the heart due to
the amount of antioxidants, which delay or prevent cell damage. In the December 1999 Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Vinson supported
this in an earlier research supporting that "The

Many Americans are obsessed with chocolate, others are constantly dieting, and some are becoming gluten free. Module Two of Current Issues in
Nutrition (HRTM 470) consisted of five lessons. This information is relevant, and it will affect my own life. The learning objectives consisted of the
emotional and physical benefits of chocolate, the flow of chocolate production from tree to consumer, the strategies employed by food manufacturers
focused on promoting unhealthy food choices, foods that contain gluten, celiac disease, prebiotics and probiotics. The chocolate quiz offered many
interesting facts about chocolate. I was especially surprised to learn it took 400 cocoa beans to make one block of chocolate. Additionally, I thought
chocolate contained more caffeine than the average 5 milligrams. I do not think advertisers and food manufacturers should refer to anything less than
28 milligrams of caffeine as caffeine free. I thought the number of women who craved chocolate would have been higher than 40%. Like most
American males, I crave a grilled steak more than chocolate; however, after this lesson, I plan to consume more dark chocolate for its nutritional
benefits. In the American diet, chocolate serves as the primary source of the essential mineral, copper, this is involved in bone metabolism.
Additionally, chocolate is high in flavonoids, specifically a polyphenol, that reduces inflammation. Eating an ounce of chocolate a day resulted in a

Prices For Chocolate And Its Effects Essay
(a) Within the chocolate and confectionary industry, prices for chocolate have been seen to increase in recent years. Due to a combination of reasons
the cost of producing chocolate went up by 33% in 2013 (Daily Mail, 2013). A significant price rise in this industry is likely to be due to a
combination of factors that influence both supply and demand.
Regarding supply, the world's largest producer of cocoa the Ivory Coast, contributing 33% to global production (Dand, 1999), has experienced
political unrest causing a reduction in business confidence for cocoa growers and less of an incentive to produce due to a lack of stability. With
cocoa being one of the primary raw materials for producing chocolate an increase in the cost of cocoa is likely to make production more expensive
henceforth decreasing supply. This would shift the supply curve left to create a new equilibrium, pushing price from P0 to P1 as shown in the graph
below.
On the other hand, shifts in demand can also heavily influence a price change in the chocolate industry. Demand for chocolate has always been
relatively high in the UK, with Britons accounting for 25% of entire European demand in 2005 (Market: Europe, 2007). As market analyst Peter
Christou states, the chocolate market is growing 10.6% annually with consumers purchasing once every two weeks (Christou, 2008). Due to the
diversity of brands and products within the chocolate market, consumers are very likely to make choices at point of sale,

The Benefits of Chocolate Essay
Chocolate There is nothing any better than a good piece of chocolate. Its rich, its creamy, its smooth, and it makes us feel so–o–o–o good for a few
moments of course, that is; until the guilt of the calories kick in. Chocolate happens to be one of my favorite sweets. The wonderful creamy milk
chocolate, bittersweet chocolate, white chocolate, or even my personal favorite a silky dark chocolate, the choices are hard. I sat down this weekend

Now is the time to get over the guilt of eating chocolate because of the calories. Science has found that there are some good reasons to eat and enjoy
good pieces of chocolate. They have findings to prove that it acts as an antioxidant because of the flavonoids, lowering blood pressure, in turn
benefiting the heart (WebMD). Let me give you a few reasons beyond that. Milk chocolate and dark chocolate taste good. They both stimulate
endorphins, the pleasure feelings. They both have a type of serotonin, a form of anti–depressant. Both milk chocolate and dark chocolate are stimulants;
that is because of the theobromine found in caffeine. The theobromine in chocolate is released at a slower rate than caffeine, so the effects are longer
and slower, without the rush or jittery effects that coffee can have. Even parts of the fats in chocolate are converted into mono–unsaturated fats, thanks
to the liver. Now these finding have proven that the milk chocolate is not as powerful with all these benefits as the dark chocolate is, but they are still
there. Also the milk chocolates are of course higher in the calories, because of the fats from the sugar, and cream that are used to produce milk
chocolate (RealAge.com). The actual flavor compounds found in dark chocolate exceed those of red wine, and detecting all these notes can be an
extremely fun and educational endeavor (Chocolateusa.org). To start the process of truly enjoying dark

All About Chocolate Everything You'd Need to Know on the World's Favourite Food Emile Hamzo– January 16, 2018 *Important Notice* Cacao

adore in every way, chocolate being one them. A creamy and delicious dessert, it's not hard to understand why it's adored by many. All though it may

that many of us don't know about. Read further to uncover chocolate's huge impact on society. History of Chocolate Chocolate may be known as the
"food of the gods," but for the majority of its 4,00–year old history, it was consumed as a bitter and frothy drink rather than as a sweet edible treat.
Anthropologists have found evidence that chocolate has been being made by people living in present–day Mexico as early as 1900 B.C! The ancient

This machine revolutionized chocolate–making for the rest of history. The cocoa press cleverly worked to squeeze the cocoa butter from roasted
cocoa beans, leaving behind dry clumps which could then be pulverized into a fine powder. The fine powder could be mixed with liquids and other

chocolate by enabling it to be used as a confectionery and baking ingredient. This resulted in chocolate having a hefty price drop so it could be bought

Chocolate And Its Effect On The Brain
Chocolate. Ah, just the word makes one's mouth water. Sweet, velvety, creamy, delicious. Most of us really only care about the taste, but do we
actually know what chocolate is made of? Yes, yes, milk, cocoa, cream, and sugar are all correct answers, but, do most of us know what chocolate is
made of on a molecular level? I think not. Do we know why we feel happy after eating it, chocolate tastes the way it does, why some types are
creamier and smoother than others, etc. The answer all boils down to chemistry; a simple answer, yet complicated for many reasons. Chocolate contains
many chemicals which affect the brain. The three primary chemicals are caffeine, theobromine, and tryptophan. 1,3,7–trimethylxanthine or caffeine
(C8H10N4O2) is a stimulant that is near and dear to us all. It is the chemical that gives us a boost after consuming our morning coffee or drinking a
soda. It excites our central nervous system which increases heart rate and contracts muscles. Caffeine affects dopamine and adenosine receptors in the
brain which release pleasure producing chemicals. Theobromine (C7H8N4O2) is a bitter alkaloid derived from the cacao plant, which is the main
component of chocolate. Theobromine and a similar effect to caffeine on the body, but it is not as strong; theobromine is essentially a mood–lifter
(NBC LEARN). Tryptophan is an essential amino acid for humans, and since the body cannot manufacture it, it must be ingested. It plays an important

In a study conducted by Dr. Dirk Taubert at the University of Cologne in Germany, six men and seven women between the ages of 55 to 64, all of
whom had mild to high blood pressure levels, were monitored. The subjects were to eat a 100–gram candy bar a week; half of the patients were given
white chocolate and half dark chocolate. They were to balance the 480 calories in the bar by not eating foods similar in calories and nutrients. Those
who ate the dark chocolate had a drop in blood pressure, while those who ate white chocolate did not (WebMD, 2003).
The sweet taste of chocolate also triggers the release of endorphins. These create an elated feeling, and decreased sensitivity to pain. Women also tend
to crave chocolate.
There are medical explanations for this phenomenon, although some argue as to which is the most correct. It is believed that women crave chocolate
because it contains theobromine and caffeine, which provides improved mental clarity, and phenylethylamine, which stimulates the nervous system,
increases blood pressure and heart rate, and produces similar feelings to that of being "in love" (WebMD, 2001). Some also say that the craving is
caused by the body's need for nutrients, such as magnesium.
However, if this was the case, why don't we crave other magnesium–rich foods such as soybeans or peanuts? (WebMD, 2001)
The next time you get that chocolate craving, grab a small piece of dark chocolate. This will

eggs, fold a permanent paper in the shape of a cone, and fill the inside with melted white chocolate (or any other color you wish). Write your custom
or desired messages, or paint your favorite shapes onto the eggs. You can also add white chocolate into the mold before any of the steps above, to
give the eggs zebra like patterns for additional decoration.
If you need more creative and sweet ideas, you can watch some videos on YouTube.

Just as many other movies from this period, the blood used in Psycho's shower scene, wasn't fake blood but chocolate syrup. 3. The invention of the chocolate chip cookies was an accident. In 1930, Ruth Wakefield was making some chocolate cookies when she run out of baker's chocolate, so she used Nestle chocolate instead. Unknowlingly, she created chocolate chip cookies. Peripheral vasodilation is the dilation of the veins and arteries of the periphery. v.This will lower blood pressure and provide less resistance for the heart to beat. 3.In another study, British psychologists, including professor David Kennedy, found chocolate to be proven to help with math. i.Study subjects had an easier time counting backwards from a randomly–generated number between 800 and 999 after drinking a cup of hot chocolate than they did without the cocoa. ii. Participants were asked to complete serial subtraction tasks of threes and sevens (counting down by 3s and 7s), and a rapid visual information–processing task to test sustained attention. iii. Persuasive Essay On Chocolate Every day is a constant battle to choose the healthy food in the dining commons, to find the time to exercise can be difficult if you have a full time job as well as school work, and to fight any and all chocolate cravings. The times I lose the battle to my chocolate cravings, I always feel pretty guilty. But who doesn't? Anything that tastes that delicious must not be a good idea. In moderation, chocolate can do wonders for your heart, mind, skin and more. People work their minds hard every day, and the heart should never be denied any help. I think we all need dark chocolate in our lives. In order to maintain a healthy lifestyle, people need to participate in at least 30 minutes of exercise every day. Benefit Of Chocolate Essay The Health Benefits of Chocolate Everyone seems to love chocolate, and it is one of the most purchased treats on Valentine's Day for friends, family, husbands and wives. When people are stressed, or feel like they need a comfort food, chocolate is one of the first things that comes to mind, and is reached to soothe a troubled emotional heart. In the past, chocolate has been considered to be a 'sweet junk food' that is high in sugar and calories with no nutritional value. But due to recent nutritional and scientific research people should be eating a bit of dark chocolate for the antioxidants and heart healthy benefits. Chocolate has recently been researched in the science world for its high levels of antioxidants,...show more content... Chocolate has two groups of antioxidants called flavonoids and polyphenols. Antioxidants fight against free radicals in the body. Free radicals are unbalanced compounds created by the natural cellular processes in the body and from environmental toxins. Antioxidants are compounds including vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals that neutralize free radicals and protect the body from their damage. The substances in antioxidants counteract with the damaging normal effects of the body's process of oxidization. Research shows that antioxidants help in preventing the development of chronic diseases such as cancer, heart disease, stroke, Alzheimer's, rheumatoid arthritis, and cataracts. In a 2000 edition of Science News Journal, Janet Raloff supports the benefits of chocolate with the findings of antioxidants within chocolate, "Chocolate and cocoa powders are derived from beans that contain healthy quantities of antioxidants called flavonoids which have cardiovascular benefits" (188). She continued to state that these flavonoids are more powerful in chocolate than in vitamins, some teas, or wines. Dark chocolate can also help decrease the amount of blood clots in the heart due to the amount of antioxidants, which delay or prevent cell damage. In the December 1999 Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, Vinson supported this in an earlier research supporting that "The Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 12. Chocolate Reflection Papers Many Americans are obsessed with chocolate, others are constantly dieting, and some are becoming gluten free. Module Two of Current Issues in Nutrition (HRTM 470) consisted of five lessons. This information is relevant, and it will affect my own life. The learning objectives consisted of the emotional and physical benefits of chocolate, the flow of chocolate production from tree to consumer, the strategies employed by food manufacturers focused on promoting unhealthy food choices, foods that contain gluten, celiac disease, prebiotics and probiotics. The chocolate quiz offered many interesting facts about chocolate. I was especially surprised to learn it took 400 cocoa beans to make one block of chocolate. Additionally, I thought chocolate contained more caffeine than the average 5 milligrams. I do not think advertisers and food manufacturers should refer to anything less than 28 milligrams of caffeine as caffeine free. I thought the number of women who craved chocolate would have been higher than 40%. Like most American males, I crave a grilled steak more than chocolate; however, after this lesson, I plan to consume more dark chocolate for its nutritional benefits. In the American diet, chocolate serves as the primary source of the essential mineral, copper, this is involved in bone metabolism. Additionally, chocolate is high in flavonoids, specifically a polyphenol, that reduces inflammation. • 13. Prices For Chocolate And Its Effects Essay (a) Within the chocolate and confectionary industry, prices for chocolate have been seen to increase in recent years. Due to a combination of reasons the cost of producing chocolate went up by 33% in 2013 (Daily Mail, 2013). A significant price rise in this industry is likely to be due to a combination of factors that influence both supply and demand. Regarding supply, the world's largest producer of cocoa the Ivory Coast, contributing 33% to global production (Dand, 1999), has experienced political unrest causing a reduction in business confidence for cocoa growers and less of an incentive to produce due to a lack of stability. With cocoa being one of the primary raw materials for producing chocolate an increase in the cost of cocoa is likely to make production more expensive henceforth decreasing supply. This would shift the supply curve left to create a new equilibrium, pushing price from P0 to P1 as shown in the graph below. On the other hand, shifts in demand can also heavily influence a price change in the chocolate industry. Demand for chocolate has always been relatively high in the UK, with Britons accounting for 25% of entire European demand in 2005 (Market: Europe, 2007). As market analyst Peter Christou states, the chocolate market is growing 10.6% annually with consumers purchasing once every two weeks (Christou, 2008). Due to the diversity of brands and products within the chocolate market, consumers are very likely to make choices at point of sale, Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Its rich, its creamy, its smooth, and it makes us feel so–o–o–o good for a few moments of course, that is; until the guilt of the calories kick in. Chocolate happens to be one of my favorite sweets. The wonderful creamy milk chocolate, bittersweet chocolate, white chocolate, or even my personal favorite a silky dark chocolate, the choices are hard. I sat down this weekend to really think about, and compare the differences. I compared my two favorite types of chocolate, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate. Milk chocolate is usually paired with nuggets, nuts, creams or caramels, but the dark chocolate is best with a wine such as a Muscat Canelli. Either makes a...show more content... Now is the time to get over the guilt of eating chocolate because of the calories. Science has found that there are some good reasons to eat and enjoy good pieces of chocolate. They have findings to prove that it acts as an antioxidant because of the flavonoids, lowering blood pressure, in turn benefiting the heart (WebMD). Let me give you a few reasons beyond that. Milk chocolate and dark chocolate taste good. They both stimulate endorphins, the pleasure feelings. They both have a type of serotonin, a form of anti–depressant. Both milk chocolate and dark chocolate are stimulants; that is because of the theobromine found in caffeine. The theobromine in chocolate is released at a slower rate than caffeine, so the effects are longer and slower, without the rush or jittery effects that coffee can have. Even parts of the fats in chocolate are converted into mono–unsaturated fats, thanks to the liver. Now these finding have proven that the milk chocolate is not as powerful with all these benefits as the dark chocolate is, but they are still there. Also the milk chocolates are of course higher in the calories, because of the fats from the sugar, and cream that are used to produce milk chocolate (RealAge.com). The actual flavor compounds found in dark chocolate exceed those of red wine, and detecting all these notes can be an extremely fun and educational endeavor (Chocolateusa.org). History of Chocolate Chocolate may be known as the "food of the gods," but for the majority of its 4,00–year old history, it was consumed as a bitter and frothy drink rather than as a sweet edible treat. Anthropologists have found evidence that chocolate has been being made by people living in present–day Mexico as early as 1900 B.C! The ancient Mesoamericans who first cultivated the cacao bean found in the rainforests of Central America fermented, roasted and ground them into a smooth paste that they mixed...show more content... The cocoa press cleverly worked to squeeze the cocoa butter from roasted cocoa beans, leaving behind dry clumps which could then be pulverized into a fine powder. • 17. Chocolate And Its Effect On The Brain Chocolate. Ah, just the word makes one's mouth water. Sweet, velvety, creamy, delicious. Most of us really only care about the taste, but do we actually know what chocolate is made of? Yes, yes, milk, cocoa, cream, and sugar are all correct answers, but, do most of us know what chocolate is made of on a molecular level? I think not. Do we know why we feel happy after eating it, chocolate tastes the way it does, why some types are creamier and smoother than others, etc. The answer all boils down to chemistry; a simple answer, yet complicated for many reasons. Chocolate contains many chemicals which affect the brain. The three primary chemicals are caffeine, theobromine, and tryptophan. 1,3,7–trimethylxanthine or caffeine (C8H10N4O2) is a stimulant that is near and dear to us all. It is the chemical that gives us a boost after consuming our morning coffee or drinking a soda. It excites our central nervous system which increases heart rate and contracts muscles. Caffeine affects dopamine and adenosine receptors in the brain which release pleasure producing chemicals. Theobromine (C7H8N4O2) is a bitter alkaloid derived from the cacao plant, which is the main component of chocolate. Theobromine and a similar effect to caffeine on the body, but it is not as strong; theobromine is essentially a mood–lifter (NBC LEARN). Tryptophan is an essential amino acid for humans, and since the body cannot manufacture it, it must be ingested. It plays an important role in the synthesis of Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Not only is chocolate the perfect gift for your sweetie on Valentine's Day, it also may benefit your heart. The ingredients in chocolate are not only delicious, but dark chocolate and cocoa powders also contain disease–fighting antioxidants. The key to gaining the most benefits from dark chocolate is to enjoy it in moderation. According to cnn.com (2000), in addition to antioxidants, one of the fats found in chocolate, called stearic acid, may increase healthy cholesterol (HDL), and make bad cholesterol levels (LDL) less susceptible for oxidation, which leads to clogged arteries. This is the opposite effect one...show more content... In a study conducted by Dr. Dirk Taubert at the University of Cologne in Germany, six men and seven women between the ages of 55 to 64, all of whom had mild to high blood pressure levels, were monitored. The subjects were to eat a 100–gram candy bar a week; half of the patients were given white chocolate and half dark chocolate. They were to balance the 480 calories in the bar by not eating foods similar in calories and nutrients. Those who ate the dark chocolate had a drop in blood pressure, while those who ate white chocolate did not (WebMD, 2003). The sweet taste of chocolate also triggers the release of endorphins. These create an elated feeling, and decreased sensitivity to pain. Women also tend to crave chocolate. There are medical explanations for this phenomenon, although some argue as to which is the most correct. It is believed that women crave chocolate because it contains theobromine and caffeine, which provides improved mental clarity, and phenylethylamine, which stimulates the nervous system, increases blood pressure and heart rate, and produces similar feelings to that of being "in love" (WebMD, 2001). Some also say that the craving is caused by the body's need for nutrients, such as magnesium. However, if this was the case, why don't we crave other magnesium–rich foods such as soybeans or peanuts? (WebMD, 2001) The next time you get that chocolate craving, grab a small piece of dark chocolate. This will
