 After the civil war a variety of inventions, and a
wealth of resources helped to fuel an industrial
boom.
 Lots of labor was needed.
 Children worked very cheaply and were easier to
push around and control
 Many families were very poor but had many
children. The children needed to work to support
their family so that they could survive.

help their family and work on the farm but
the factory jobs presented new problems
and dangers.
