2. ABSTRACT :
Transparent concrete is a concrete based building material with light-Transmissive
properties due to embedded light optical elements usually Optical fibers. Light is conducted
through the stone from one end to the other. Therefore the fibers have to go through the whole
object. Transparent concrete is also known as the translucent concrete and light transmitting
concrete because of its properties. It is used in fine architecture as a facade material and for
cladding of interior walls. In this paper, to integrate the merits of concrete and optical fiber, for
developing transparent concrete by arranging the high numerical aperture Plastic Optical Fibers
(POF) or big diameter glass optical fiber into concrete. The main purpose is to use sunlight as
a light source to reduce the power consumption of illumination and to use the optical fiber to
sense the stress of structures and also use this concrete as an architectural purpose for
goodaesthetical view of the building.
3. INTRODUCTION :
• Concrete is a building material made of a mixture of water, sand, pebbles and cement,
often defined as artificial stone.
• “Glass fibres do not have a significant negative effect on the high compressive strength
of concrete.”
• As this content has become more complex throughout history Litracon presents the
concept of light transmitting concrete in the form of a widely applicable new building
material. It can be used for interior or exterior walls, illuminated pavements or even in art
or design objects.
• The significance of making concrete transparent or translucent has increased.
4. SCOPE :
• To manufacturing LiTraCon pertain to Green Technology
• To obtain artistic finish
• To obtain transparent concrete
• To check the suitability for interior walls, Facades dividing walls and logos etc…
• It can be used for interior or exterior walls, illuminated pavements or even in art or design
objects.
• It adds to the beauty of the interior by illuminating the area during day time.
• It is used to construct sidewalks and speed bumps that illuminate at night and provide
increased safety for pedestrians and roadside traffic.
• Transparent concrete blocks suitable for floors , Pavements and Load – Bearing walls
• Increasing Visibility in dark subway Stations
5. APPLICATIONS
• Translucent concrete blocks are suitable for floorings.
• It is also used in staircases and desks.
• Other than that, translucent concrete is used in partition walls, doors,
panels, etc,..
