Walton, New York
The Walton Central School District rests in the
Village of Walton, a quiet and close-knit communi-
ty of about 3,100 on the banks of the West Branch
of the Delaware River in the foothills of the Catskill
Mountains.
Walton is located approximately 150 miles from
the New York metropolitan area. Binghamton is
about an hour away, with Albany, Syracuse, and
the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Pa.) area each about
two hours away. Oneonta is a short 25-minute ride.
Five colleges are also located within an hour: SUNY
Delhi, SUNY Oneonta, Hartwick College, Bing-
hamton University, and SUNY Broome CC.
The Walton community is a proud and active
supporter of its school district. KRAFT is a long-es-
tablished business in Walton and is one of the major
employers. UHS Delaware Valley is the local hospi-
tal. Walton is also the host of the Delaware County
Fair, which in 2015 will celebrate its 129th year.
A radio station (WDLA) and weekly newspa-
per (The Reporter) covers our community, as well
as the surrounding areas. There are also many
churches, serving a wide range of faiths. There are
also many other places of worship within a 10- to
15-minute drive.
According to the 2010 census, the population in
the town of Walton was approximately 5,576, with
the Village of Walton at approximately 3,088.
There are plenty of outdoor activities in the
Walton area, with opportunities for golfing, tennis,
swimming, camping, hunting, boating, fishing, and
hiking. Nearby state parks and lands offers oppor-
tunities for camping, picnicking, hiking, snowmo-
biling, and cross-country skiing.
There are many cultural activities in or near
Walton, including concerts provided by “Music on
the Delaware,” the historic Walton Theater, seasonal
festivals and other artistic endeavors.
