ANGEL G
Hello we are the Young Carers Schools Inspectors and are part of YCOF -
Young Carers Oxfordshire Forum
My name is Angel, Nadia, Chloe, Adam, Louise and Hannah.
We created YCOF (Young Carers Oxfordshire Forum) back in March to created change and inspire hidden young carers across our county to come forward.
YCOF has so far been involved in training professionals, evaluating provision…in the future we will be involved with the Young Carers Conference for professionals – please ask Verity fro more details.
YCOF is open to any Young Carers who want to be involved…we will be having an official YCOF kick off meeting on the 13th August.
If you would like to come please ask your school Young Carers Lead.
ADAM B
There are 30 schools in the county who are signed up to the young carers school standards and are at Bronze or Silver Award level.
YCOF wanted to create a training package for schools to teach them to 'think young carer' and hear our voice and experience of what it's like being a young carers and how they can help us in school.
There were 3 Young Carers Schools and Community Partnership days held across the County.
The day was for schools and professionals working with young carers and their families'.
Louise M
The feedback given by attendees was very positive and they say they learnt a lot about how we really feel and how they can help us to do well at school.
Hannah W
The day was a mix of fun and work…it was good to get professionals to do fun exercises to think about how caring affects us.
Nadia
7 of the schools felt they were ready to go for gold!
Chloe B
11 of our YCOF Forum members wanted to be a Young Carers School Inspectors.
We worked together looking again at the Young Carers school standards to create a reporting booklet based on the 7 sections of the Young Carers School Standards.
We visited 7 schools:
Angel G
Bartholomew's School
Adam B
Cheney School
Lousie M
Didcot Girls School
Hannah W
Banbury Academy
Nadia
Fir Tree Junior School
Chloe
Lord Williams
Angel G
Gillotts
Adam B
For each inspection we asked for a tour round the school and to meet up to 10 young carers to ask them questions from our gold inspection booklet.
It was a great experience to meet other young carers and see how they are supported in their school.
Some schools have some very innovate ways of identifying there young carers!
Louise
We really liked how professional the staff were at the schools we visited.
Hannah W
The lunch was also very good!
Nadia
After we finished the Gold Inspections we were hard at work evaluating the responses and writing reports to all the schools we inspected…..the ice lollies helped us a lot!
