Here are the notes I made on the set photos taken in the making of 'Psycho' which are critical in informing me of what the traditional clothes, hairstyles and props were in the very early 60s.
1. Hair is quite curly
Belt with white dress
Hair is neatly done
Man is wearing a long-
sleeved shirt and tie
Shirt has a collar
2. Wearing a white shirt,
this time short-sleeved
Desk lamp in the background
Potentially a typewriter
In the background
Piles of paper and no
computers
3. Money handed to people instead
of transferred electronically or in
cheques
Hats and fedoras were commonly
worn by men
Another suit/blazer
Shirt worn underneath smart
jacket
Typography is quite distinctive so
try and include it later on
4. Signs a lot more common
since digital billboards
were not around
Handbag with woman
which is not too dissimilar
to today
Newspapers were the
primary method of
distributing news
Plain jacket and dress worn
5. Plain jacket worn once again
with long sleeves
Hair is clean and presentable
6. Chair from 1950s decade
Classic telephone with
round dial
Lamp from the 1950s
7. Fedora hat worn by
gentleman
Dark jumper which
continues the theme of
simplicity
White jacket with nothing
on in design
Suit and tie once again
worn by gentleman
Same typography used again
8. Large coat worn by woman
with long sleeves
Fairly short hair but with curls
either aside of forehead
9. Clapperboard with capitals
on (should be accessible)
Old-fashioned lamp in corner
Hitchcock wears his signature
look of a shirt, tie and blazer
