Maintaining you riflescope:
Yourscopeisaprecisioninstrumentthatdeservesahighlevelofcare.Do not attemptto
disassembleorcleanthescopeinternally.
Keeptheprotectivelenscoversinplacewhenthescopeisnotinuse.
Theexternalopticalsurfacesshouldbewipedcleanoccasionallywiththelensclothprovidedor
anopticalqualitylenspaper.Removeanyexternaldirtorsandwithhighpressureairandasoft
brushtoavoidscratchingthelensfinish.
Wipethescopewithadampcloth,thenwithadrycloth,thengooverthemetalsectionofthe
scopewithasiliconeclothinordertoprotectthescopeagainstcorrosion.
Alwaysstorethescopeinamoisture-freeenvironment.Avoidstoringthescopeinplacessuchas
thepassengercompartmentsofvehiclesonhotdaysasthehightemperaturescouldadversely
affectthelubricantsandsealants.Avehiclesboot,aguncabinetoracupboardispreferable.
Neverleavethescopewheredirectsunlightcanentereithertheobjectiveortheeyepiecelensas
damagemayresultfromtheconcentration(burningeffect)ofthesunsrays.

3. Tofocusyourpersonaleyecharacteristicstotheriflescope,thusgivingacrystalclearpictureof
thereticle,carryoutthefollowingadjustment.
Hold the scope about three or four inches from your eye and look through the eyepiece at a
featureless,flatlylit,brightareasuchasawalloropensky.Ifthereticleisnotsharplydefined,
loosentheeyebelllock-ringandturntheeyepiece(eitherdirection)afewturns.Quicklyglance
throughthescopeagain.Ifthefocushasimproved,butisstillnotperfect,
continuefocusing.Whenthereticleappearsinsharpfocus,retightenthelock-ring.Thelockring
isauniquefeaturetotheHawkeSideWinder,thathelpspreventunnecessaryadjustmenteither
outinthefieldorbyathirdparty

STEP 2 - Mounting the riflescope:
CAUTION: Be sure that the firearm is NOT loaded. Always practice safe firearms handling
Alwayscheckthatthediameteroftheriflescopebodytubematchesthediameterofthescope
mountsthatyouwishtouse.TheSidewinderhasa30mm‘mono’bodytube,therefore30mm
mountsarerequired.
Purchasethebestmountsthatyoucanaffordmakingsurethatthebaseofthemountwillfityour
rifle.
Hi-recoilrifles,suchasspringairriflesmayrequiremountstobefittedwithrecoilstoppins.
Fixthemountstotheriflemountbase-donottightenthemounts.Laytheriflescopeintothe
mounts.Thescopeshouldbemountedaslowaspossiblewithouttouchingeitherthebarrelor
thereceiver.Beforetighteningthemountrings,lookthroughyourscopeinyournormalshooting
position.Adjustthescope(eitherforwardorbackward)untilyoufindthefurthestpointforward(to
ensuremaximumeyerelief)thatallowsyoutoseeafullfieldofview.Rotatethescopeintherings
untilthereticlepatternisperpendiculartotheboreandtheelevationturretisontop.Then
tightenthemountingscrews,tighteningeachsideevenly.
WARNING: AVOID OVER-TIGHTENING THE RINGS. THIS CAN DAMAGE THE SCOPE
AFFECTING PERFORMANCE OR RENDERING IT INOPERABLE.
BE SURE THAT THE SCOPE IS MOUNTED FAR ENOUGH FORWARD - ITS REARWARD
MOTION MAY INJURE THE SHOOTER WHEN THE RIFLE RECOILS.
Sunshade
High performance lens coatings are used on all of the Sidewinder lenses.Internal tubes are
coatedtoensuresthatanystraylight/reflectionsarekepttoaminimum.
However,onextremelysunnydays,orwhenshootingoverhighlyreflectivesurfaces(standing
water/snow)werecommendusingthesupplied100mmlongsunshade.
Touse,simplyscrewthethreadedendintotheobjectivebelloftheriflescope.

TheSidewinderissuppliedwithscrew-inlenscovers,designedtoprotectthelenseswhennot
inuse.

ToalterthemagnificationofyourSidewinderriflescope,rotatethezoomringpositionedforwardof
theeyebell.
Please note: although the zeroed Point Of Impact will not change when you change the
magnification,otheradditionalaimpointswillalterduetothereticlebeingpositionedinthe
secondfocalplane.
STEP 1 - Ocular Lens Adjustment:
Because each human being has different eye characteristics, riflescopes are made to have
adjustableeyebells.TheSidewinder30rangefeaturesafastfocusocularadjustmentwiththe
additionalfeatureofalockring.
Whenfittingthesunshadethescrewin
lens covers need to be removed first.
Thescrew-inlenscoverswillnotfitthe
sunshade.
4. The Sidewinder 30 is fitted with 1/4 MOA
push/pulllockingturrets.
STEP 3 - Zeroing the riflescope
WARNING: ALL SHOOTING SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT AT
AN APPROVED RANGE OR OTHER SAFE AREA.
EYE AND EAR PROTECTION IS RECOMMENDED
DURING THE PROCEDURE.
Formoreaccuraterangefindingandmoresensitiveoperation,thesuppliedtacticalbigwheelcan
beused.ThescaleontheBigwheelisspacedoutmore,thereforeitiseasiertodeterminethe
exactdistance/parallaxfreesetting.
Installing and Resetting the Scale on the Big Wheel
Side Wheel Parallax - Parallax correction:
To be parallax free, the target must be at the distance equal to the scope focus. Any other
distance will cause parallax error, which manifests itself as apparent movement of the reticle
againstthetarget.TheSidewinderisequippedwithsidewheelparallax.Toadjusttherange
settingofthescope,rotatethesidewheelfocusknobtothedistanceyouwanttoshoot.Whenthe
imageissharp,thecorrectparallaxsettingisachieved.Onhighermagnificationitiseasierto
determinewhethertheimageisinoroutoffocus.Oncetheimageisinfocusthedistancecanbe
readonthesidewheelscale.Thiscansuccessfullybeusedto‘rangefind’thetarget.

Alignthe‘teeth’ofthesidewheelfocusknoband
the reticle brightness control. Then slide the big
wheelcompletelypastthebrightnesscontroland
ontothesidewheelfocusknob.
Whenlocated,rotatethescaleuntiltheyardageonthe
bigwheelmatchesthescaleontheinnerfocusknob.
Once aligned carefully remove the big wheel,
keeping the scale in the same position. Remove
theoutterringandtightenthegrubscrewsplease
notetheseshouldnotbeovertightened.Replace
theoutterringandtightenupthethreescrewson
therearofthewheel.
Positionthewheelbackonthefocusknob.
ToreadthescaleontheBigWheelwerecommend
using the Big Wheel pointer.To install, place the
pointer around the body tube, at your preferred
position.
Toinstallthebigwheel,firstofallyouneedtoremovethethreescrewsontherearofthewheeland
thethreehex(grub)screwsontheinnerring.DONOTFULLYREMOVETHEHEXSCREWS.Once
thesescrewsareloosenedtheinnerrubberringshouldrotate.Pleaseensureforset–upthatitis
looseandrotating.Replacetheoutterringbutmakesurethescrewsareloose.

Togetthemostoutofyournewriflescopewerecommendthatyoureadthefollowing,in

Whenasatisfactoryzeroisachieved,theturretscanbereset.Todothis,simplyloosenthehex
screwonthetopoftheturretsandthenpulltheturretsuptotheirfurthestextent.Theturretswill
thenrotatewithoutclicking.Adjusttothe‘0’zeropoint,pushtheturretsdowntolocateintothe
lockedpositionandre-tightenthehexscrew.
1/4 MOA Turrets
Eachclickofadjustmentisknownasa1/4minuteofangle(1/4MOA).Thismeansthatoneclick
ofmovementcloselyequatesto1/4”ofmovementonatargetsetat100ydsdistance.Therefore
atdifferentranges,eachclickofadjustmentchanges:
50yds=1/8” 100yds=1/4”200yds=1/2”300yds=3/4”
TheSidewinderturretsarefactorypresetinthecentreoftheFOV(FieldofView).Thereticle
needstobeadjustedtothe‘zero’distanceoftherifleonwhichitismounted.
Beforeadjustingtheturrets,youmustfirstunlockthem.Thisisdonebypullingthemout,sothat
theyclickwhilsttheyrotate.Theturretscanthanbeadjusteduntiltheyareonzero.Tolockthe
turrets,simplypushthembackdown.
