escape yesterday when
their helicopter crashed at

Their serious head, back,

not life-threatening.
An investigation was
launched into the accident
at Breighton airport near
Selby, North Yorks.

BRITAIN is to roast in a
week-long heatwave with
the mercury set to hit a
sweltering 32C tomorrow.
Hot air from the Sahara desert
will see temperatures rocket
higher than Hawaii.
It has prompted fears that
roads will melt and rail lines warp.
The heatwave is predicted to cost
the economy £1billion in sick days
as sun-loving Brits opt to catch
some rays instead of working.
“A blowtorch weather pattern is
developing, with a scorching 32C
possible,” said forecaster Brian
Gaze of TheWeatherOutlook.
“The next few days will bring the
hottest weather of summer so far.”
Yesterday, thousands of Brits took
advantage of 27C heat and headed
to beaches and parks across the
country to bask in the sunshine.
Record
In response to the heatwave, Coral
and Ladbrokes have slashed odds
on July being the hottest on record
to 2-1 and 13-8 respectively.
Jessica Bridge from Ladbrokes
said: “The odds are melting as
quick as the ice creams during
the heatwave.
“Bosses all over the UK should
brace themselves for a deluge of
sickies next week as it looks like
the sizzling weather is here to stay
and will see July and summer 2016
soar into the record books.”
Experts are warning elderly and
vulnerable people to take extra
care. Malcolm Booth, head of the
National Federation of Occupa-
tional Pensioners, said: “The
cool and wet summer can make us
forget how dangerous a sudden hot
spell can be for the elderly and
others with health issues.”
The Mediterranean climate is not
expected to last with thunder-
storms forecast by the weekend.
Meanwhile the UK Climate
Change Risk Assessment 2017
predicted that by the 2050s, soaring
temperatures will cause demand for
water to outstrip supply by up to
two and a half times in some parts
of the country.
