A man-in-the-middle attack is a cybercrime where the attacker secretly intercepts and relays communications between two parties who believe they are directly communicating, allowing the attacker to potentially alter the communications. The attacker impersonates both sides of the conversation to gain access to funds or information by intercepting public keys and transposing their own credentials to trick each end of the conversation into thinking they are securely talking to each other.
