Introduction and Text
Putting On The Coat of Humility
"Dying To Self"
Our text will be coming from:
Luke 9:23 - And he said to [them] a
ll, If any [man] will come after me, le
t him deny himself, and take up his cr
oss daily, and follow me.

“Learning To Die To Self”
When we die to self we take up our
crosses and follow Jesus.No longer is
it about us or the things we are going
thru and facing but it is living the life
we are suppose to live. 5
We put on the coat of Humility and b
e a servant for the Lord. Being in this
mindset of Christ we are to keep self
out of the way at all times. In the firs
t part of this series we talked about t
aking off our masks and being fake.
Now the next step is to be real about
being Humble. We all have a problem
at one time or another about being h
umble and showing this compassionat
e side of us. Some I have known

9. have gotten scared to be this way, be
cause they think it is weak and its not
needed. In no way, form or fashion is
this being weak! But it is being just li
ke Jesus!!! I have been told before t
hat I was too compassionate so I res
ponded was Christ too compassionate
? Wow that was such a blessing to m
e when this person accused me of thi
s..
Meaning I was truly showing my light
to them and it kinda freaked them ou
t a little bit.
So how do we exactly "die to self?"
In 1 Peter 2:1-25 it says:
(ESV...English Standard Version)
"So put away all malice and all deceit and
hypocrisy and envy and all slander.

10. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiri
tual milk, that by it you may grow up into sa
lvation— if indeed you have tasted that the
Lord is good. As you come to him, a living
stone rejected by men but in the sight of G
od chosen and precious, you yourselves lik
e living stones are being built up as a spirit
ual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer
spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God throu
gh Jesus Christ. ..."

But in a nut shell this is what it is talking ab
out. We have to stop doing the things of thi
s world and trying to straddle a fence that i
s not even there. You are a Spiritual House
! Did you know that? Your body as it says i

are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is
in you, whom you have received from
God? You are not your own; 20 you
were bought at a price. Therefore ho

And in Romans 12:1

A Living Sacrifice
12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers an
d sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to o
ffer your bodies as a living sacrifice,h
oly and pleasing to God—this is your
true and proper worship.
Our bodies are a living sacrifice to t
he Lord!!! We need to stop letting the
things of this world come in and rob
us of what the Lord

et real with Him in ALL aspects of our
lives...Not just a few little places that
s not how HE works. He wants ALL of
us or NOTHING!!

13. Chapter 3
“Deciding What We Want”
So when we decide to let the Lord
have ALL of us HE can truly use us fo
r that HE wants for us to do.. So how
can we apply this to our lives in today
s society? There are 4 points I would
like to share with you:
1. Decide this is what you truly wan
t to do. You mindset has to be there
or this will NOT happen!
2. Praise the Lord for what He is ab
out to do in you and through you--He
listens when you praise Him and mea
n it from your heart.
3. Take yourself into the Court of th
e Holy of Holies-Mean business when
you pray and what you are saying to

14. the Lord! When you mean business
the Lord sees your heart and HE kno
ws!!!
4. Let Him lead you the way HE wa
nts for you to go-Dont be taking the r
eins from Him and thinking this is ho
w its going to be!!! That dont work!!!
Like i have said before its ALL or NOT
HING !!!
The Lord can teach and mold some
one who is teachable and will listen t
o what HE says and wants. He can no
t teach anyone who is NOT willing to l
et HIM have full control over everythi
ng.

15. Conclusion
So in conclusiondying to Self takes ef
fort on our part. We can't just sit bac
k and dictate things around us--we h
ave to be willing to give our full selve
s to the Lord and let Him do it HIS wa
y!!!
