They are large semi-aquatic
reptiles that live in the
tropical regions ofAfrica,
Asia, America and Australia.
They first appeared during
the Eocene, about fifty-five
million years ago.
3. Crocodiles are characterized by:
• There are 23 different species of crocodiles
• They can live in many environments, a few examples will be lakes and rivers
• Crocodiles were a long time ago in the top of the food chain, we´re talking about
100 millions years ago, this during the Mesozoic era
• When a female crocodile lays eggs, the temperature of the environment will
determine the sex of the baby, if the temperature is less than 32 degrees Celsius
the baby crocodiles will be female and if it is above that temperature they will be
male
• Crocodiles have powerful jaws with conical teeth included
4. Also:
• Large species like the saltwater and Nile crocodile have been known to live up to a
hundred years
• Crocodiles eat without chewing, because of this they will swallow stones to help
them digest and break down the food inside their stomachs
• The saltwater crocodile has a bite nearly three time’s more powerful than the bite
of a lion
• While eating a crocodile swallows too much air forcing them to cry
