STUDY ABROAD EXPERIENCE:
River Semester,Augsburg College– fall semester 2015
o Participated in the first ever River Semester trip for Augsburg; Wilderness InquiryOutfitters
o Paddled from Harriet Island in St. Paul to St. Louis, Missouri over the course of 60 days
o Earn 16 credits from classes taught by two professors in biology, environmental studies and political science
o Stern at least twice a weekon paddling days (average of 20 miles) and navigated with Army Corp barge maps
o Vanned and paddled down the remainder of the river all the way to the Gulf of Mexico, engaging with locals,
researchers, professors, school programming, and more while traveling
o Performed WI protocol, learned systems, and mastered WI gear usage
o Conducted field research in numerous lab and field settings, including electro fishing, bird banding, water
quality sampling, benthic macro invertebrate surveying, plankton net, trolling (fishing), and gill-net fishing
WORK EXPERIENCE:
YMCA CAMP ICAGHOWAN - Wilderness Guide & Camp Counselor - 2011 - present (seasonal; summer)
o Knowledge of trip leading and the St. Croix and Namekagon river systems, and leading young adults through
the wilderness
o Working closelywith occupational therapists to assist in counseling special needs children (aspergers, autism,
ADHD, ADD, OCD)
o Mentoring “counselors in training” (CITs) about handling sensitive camper situations
o Leading team building activities with youths of a wide range of demographics; campers from different racial,
religious and socioeconomic backgrounds
o Collaborated and coordinated dynamically with a familyof counselors to ensure that every camper's
