INTRODUCTION 
1. Military service, is service by an individual or group in an army, whether as a 
chosen job or as a result of an involuntary draft(conscription). 
2. Some nations (for example: UK) require a specific amount of military service from 
every citizen (except for special cases, such as physical or mental disorders or 
religious beliefs) 
3. A nation with a fully volunteer Military does not normally require mandatory 
military service from its citizens, unless it is faced with a recruitment crisis during a 
time of war.
EXAMPLE 
1. In UK (16-33) years of age(for men) is mandatory for voluntary 
military services. 
2. For women candidates the same age criteria is applicable 
but service excludes ground combat positions. 
3. Women candidates consist 12.1% of UK military services.
REASON (WHY MILITARY SERVICES SHOULD BE 
OBLIGATORY) 
 If you want to live in the country why can’t we fight for it? If you can sit there and say "oh I live in 
United Kingdom". but if I were to ask you would you fight for it and you say “no” 
 I don't believe that everyone should be forced into combat (only on a volunteer basis), but 
everyone should take basic training and serve for at least a year
ADVANTAGES 
1 The country will have enough reserved soldiers to fight . 
2. Equality of citizens is promoted. 
3. For those just leaving school it may be a good temporary 
Occupation. 
4. Discipline, self-respect, physical conditioning and especially 
everyday improvisation can be improved and developed. 
5. Usually the military have a huge range of courses.
1. Free will is Violated. 
DISADVANTAGES 
2. Quality of military service is compromised. 
3. At the end of the day soldiers are made to kill, war is never 
constructive. 
4. When the bullets start flying you may die. It’s not like on CNN or 
Hollywood which sansitises the horrors
