Overall Management Report Assignment Grade: MERIT
Assessors Comments:
• Clearly addresses the problem and demonstrates ability to understand contextual issues and
the implications of change. A justification of using alternative investigation methods, if the
research was undertaken again was considered i.e.; using a focus group and/or conducting a
telephone survey. The appropriateness of using a pilot scheme, questionnaire layout and the
difficulties that can be experienced with question comprehension could have been considered
more.
• Primary data collection was mainly through questionnaires and one-to-one interviews. 28
questionnaires were distributed to all members of staff in the Workforce Information,
Recruitment, Operational HR and Learning and Development Teams. 18 were completed and
returned, giving a response rate of 64%.
• Secondary research consisted of reviewing the disciplinary and grievance procedures;
various HR textbooks; current CIPD Factsheets: Diversity (Feb 2010) and Discipline and
Grievance at Work (April 2010); CIPD People Management Articles ‘How to Avoid
Uncertainties in the ACAS code’ (March 2010) and various websites were utilised. All
research sources were shown in a good bibliography and reference list.
• An excellent analysis given on primary data sources, shown in the findings section. Most
results from the questionnaire were graphically represented, which enabled you to visually
highlight certain points. One-to-one interviews were also summarised in this section.
Secondary data analysis was reasonably well investigated and clearly identified issues
surrounding disciplinary and grievance in previously published material and in your own
organisation.
• The conclusions were developed logically from the information obtained and addresses most
of the key issues.
• The research undertaken, enabled some good recommendations to be made surrounding
disciplinary and grievance issues within your organisation. The recommendations are
practical and logically developed, that consider implication of implementation i.e.: time and
financial issues were considered. Potential difficulties and there resolution could have been
identified and developed.
Appendices incorporated relevant documentation, which showed that research had been
undertaken. The information included was linked well with the main body of the text. Good
bibliography incorporated but remember: it is a numbered list, in alphabetically order according
to authors SURNAME. The references used were linked in well with the reference list. Overall a
good management report, which was well executed and presented. Well Done.
