1. Media professional dedicated to the creation, reinvention and maintenance of
brands that resonate. Editorial consultant, editor, project manager, writer and
content curator. Specialist in vision creation, ideas generation and execution,
team building and management, project management and brand extensions.
Current favourite career highpoints…
- Outperforming the difficult market: I managed the implementation of a
new vision for Bike magazine, created and rolled-out a new way of
working, and ran the magazine day-to-day. Result: a year-on-year sales
increase in a declining market and award nominations.
- Variety is the spice of life: most recently I added a gardening magazine to
my portfolio of clients. I thrive on the challenge of new subjects, platforms
and audiences.
- One from the archives: The Fast and the Furious – I created and executed
the online marketing vision for the first film in Universal Studios’ hugely
successful franchise.
Key operating principles that drive my work…
- I create and foster cultures and environments where creativity thrives.
- I establish processes that allow my projects to reach their targets
efficiently, while maintaining the integrity of the vision and ideas.
- I make the most of all resources (human, time and financial) by working
smarter.
The things that make me a great colleague…
- Anchor man: a wealth of experience as a colleague, freelancer and
entrepreneur in a wide range of roles including project manager/editor
and brand ambassador. All of which makes me a calm, unflappable,
completer-finisher.
- Ability to balance the fun of creativity with the process to see projects
successfully through to fruition.
- Understands people are our greatest asset and that a great team is always
greater than the sum of its parts.
Vital statistics…
- Contributed at all levels to the sale of millions of magazines, tens of
thousands of event tickets, and engaged 100,000s of unique users.
- Trained and recruitment many great creatives who have moved on to big
media careers.
- Continue to work on a wide range of projects, both big and small, and I
enjoy every moment of it.
Verve
I blame Dickie Davis, and all those Saturday lunchtimes spent watching the Tour
de France on World of Sport, for my continued love of cycling. But it wasn’t until
the mid-90s that I really began to understand why riding is so important to me.
Back then I bought a US cycling magazine that came with a training planner. On
each page of this planner was a quote, including one from the then Vice President
2. of the USA. The gist of his quote was this: no matter how large the problem an
hour on my bike brings clarity and a solution. And it is true, riding bikes is good
for the body, mind and soul.
